Jericho was amazing and compassionate but they had no food. They were out of chicken, fries, and baked potatoes all what I wanted. A chicken place with no chicken? Our server was very kind and apologetic.

We waited for over an hour for our food. Everyone at surrounding tables waited just as long as us. The staff didn’t even inform us there would be such a long wait after she sat us down. It’s 84 degrees outside today and it felt cooler outside than it did inside the restaurant. My husband was fully cooked before his chicken was cooked. It’s been two years since we’ve been here, and it’s definitely a completely different experience. This place is dead to us.

The German potato salad was great! The German Cole slaw was terrible!! The gizzards were really good and a huge serving!!

Very slow service . Chicken was just like Mrs Paul's. I should have cooked my own. I got four pieces. Two were all breading and no meat backs. I will not be returning

There were many tables available but the hostess seated us right next to the swing door to the kitchen.
Looking around, it is very cramped, dark and dinged up. Needs a remodel badly.

Waiter came and mumbled his name. He asked what we would like. I asked for water with lemon. Husband, cola.
He brought the drinks with wet paper straw wrappers that were stuck together and no lemon. He also brought 2 bread plates, 2 forks and one knife and said he would bring another knife when one was clean.
Odd.
He came back to take our order and I asked if we could get clean plates because ours were crusty with food that we didnt order.

He brought back plates soaked with water and took our order.

he asked if we wanted an appetizer. We ordered onion rings.
20 minutes later, the onion rings came. They were unimpressive. Greasy and thin strings.
Didn't like them.
10 minutes more and our food came out. I guess they don't understand the meaning of appetizers.

The chicken was overcooked, hard and greasy.
Mashed potatoes tasted like instant.
The slaw was good and the baked beans.
We were never checked on again until another woman brought our bill.

The waiter never did come back.

Nor will we.

Was very hot and stuffy inside ! Service was awful and the food as well, chicken parmesan terribly dry and the spaghetti was very sour tasting , chicken way to salty, for the price I paid and the portions I recieved was not worth it ! Got very ill after eating as well, highly recommend going to Pichlers instead far better food and service !

Visiting from Ohio & wanted to try both, Chicken Mary’s & Chicken Annie’s. Unfortunately we were disappointed in both! Chicken Mary’s food was NOT good & Chicken Annie’s service was terrible. We did try both on a Sunday. Annie’s, dine in for lunch & Marys, takeout for dinner.
Mary’s chicken fingers were probably the worst we’ve ever had. My husband spat them out. The meat sauce for the spaghetti was way too salty, it looked and tasted like a can of Manwich. The fried chicken was very dry and the side dishes lacked flavor. If you’re in the area and want to try one of Pittsburg’s “famous” chicken places 1000% go to Annie’s.
In response to the owners question about the service….. I did “fix” my review on that. I can’t really rate their service as we did order take out. We called, ordered food & picked it up. Simple process with zero issues. The restaurant itself was nicer than Annie’s.

So much food and so good. The best chicken around by far and I mean distance too. 5 of us had appetizers of gizzards and livers. Chicken is soooo good. Didn't get dessert because we got so much food we had 4 carry out boxes. Will return. Drive an hour to get there. We'll worth it. Service was great. Thanks Lily! Recommended highly.

Our recent visit to Chicken Mary's in Pittsburg, Kansas, was a delightful experience, largely due to the exceptional service and some truly memorable side dishes.

From the moment we walked in, the service was excellent and attentive. Our server went above and beyond, even assisting us with splitting the bill to accommodate our work credit card – a small detail that made a big difference.

The true stars of the show for our table were the livers, gizzards, and hearts. They were absolute perfection – crispy, seasoned impeccably, and served piping hot. It was also a unique and pleasant surprise to see chicken hearts featured on the menu. Equally impressive were the onion rings. While more akin to shoestring onions, they were undeniably some of the best we've ever had. They were perfectly crispy, remarkably un-greasy, and well-seasoned.

The fried chicken itself received mixed reviews at our table. While good, some found the breading a bit too thick. There was also a distinct flavor, perhaps from a buttermilk soak, that wasn't a universal favorite among our group.

However, the sides largely redeemed any chicken quibbles. The green beans were cooked to perfection – flavorful, not mushy, and boasting plenty of onion. The German potato salad was a new experience for our table and, unfortunately, didn't win us over; however, we suspect this is more a personal preference as we've had similar experiences with it elsewhere! The spaghetti, on the other hand, was a resounding success. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the sauce tasted homemade, thick, and rich.

Our meal deal also included two desserts that ended the meal on a high note. The carrot cake was truly excellent, with a thick, creamy, and not-overly-sweet cream cheese icing. We enjoyed the cheesecake the following day, and it was everything cheesecake should be – incredibly thick and perfectly textured.

Overall, Chicken Mary's offers a charming dining experience with outstanding service and some truly exceptional takes on classic comfort food sides. While the chicken itself might elicit varied opinions, the other offerings are more than worth the visit.

Chicken Mary's is a quintessential, small town, midwest diner. There is a long-standing rivalry with chicken Annie's which is a couple hundred ft down the street in the middle of nowhere. These two restaurants were actually featured on Food Wars which was a travel channel show.

Everything inside is old; like 70's old. The decorations, the tables and chairs, and most of the customers. I'm sorry to say it wasn't very clean. The decorations were dusty .Went on a Thursday night and it was not busy or empty. No music in the dining area, low ceilings , dark lighting the silence was deafening. The wait staff were mostly young and friendly. German coleslaw was cabbage and vinegar with a little pepper, green beans were either canned or overcooked, but I came for the chicken! Thick crunchy breading but under seasoned. Chicken tastes brined, very moist. I came to try Chicken Mary's and Chicken Annie's and decide who is best. Truthfully, I wasn't impressed by either but would favor Chicken Annie's slightly. You can read my review about the competition. Keep in mind, these are small diners literally surrounded by farmland. This is not fine dining, not a trendy restaurant in a revitalized downtown. For what it is and where it is, it's passable, cheap, classic Midwest food.
