The burger and chili hotdogs were good, and the frozen drinks are awesome as usual, the root beer is always great. The retro look inside was nice. The counter person was very polite and nice.
Moving across country from western state and after passing a few billboards we had to see if there really was an actual A&W. We were pleasantly surprised to find a real functioning A&W with a self serve soda fountain containing the much loved beverage with DIET as an option. Food was good too! Very friendly staff and guests. We were not disappointed so it is worth pulling off freeway for a treat!!
Had great food haven't been to one in a long time. Traveling on the road decideud a pitstop. Was worth it.
Just went to A&W for two chicken strips was told they were nine dollars. It would be cheaper to order the combo so I ordered three chicken strip combo no fries, just a medium Dr Pepper $10…, The person taking my order at the drive up was very rude. Talked way too fast and lost my sale because I left… probably won’t go back anytime soon. This was on May 13 at approximately 5:30 PM. That way you can tell who is working.
Dated restaurant but food was good and staff were great
It is almost impossible to find just a A&W Restaurant now without it being attached to another franchise in the same building. I make it a point to stop by here whenever I am passing Russell on I70. I've never had bad service, or food here. This location still has that vintage vibe feel to it when you walk inside. I highly recommend stopping here for food. It is worth the extra minute or two it takes to get there off I70 over getting McDonalds right there on I70.
Closed when we tried to eat here at 9pm.
Not very many stand alone A&W drive in style left & this one was great!
A classic American fast food spot. Drinks served in a frozen mug when you dine in
Before I rate, let me say this. I am a huge fan of nostalgic A&W.
High points: The service was outstanding and I lersonally loved the 50s/60s vibe of the original building.
Low points: The food had a very processed/chemical taste. Plus, the prices were high for what you received. (3) boxes of 5 piece chicken tenders, (2) chili cheese coneys, (2) root beer drinks and (1) mug were almost $77.00.

I stopped here in Russel KS to get a root beer float that was awesome. Went to start the truck, and the fuel pump went out. Lol
Great food and service
My favorite fast food place in Russell, KS! Anytime I'm in town, this is a must stop! Our food was hot, tasty, and looked like the picture on the menu, which we all know, never happens! Service was fast and courteous. We ordered outside at the car park area, which was clean and well lit.
I have had the great fortune to have traveled all over these United States and had some of the greatest meals a person can ask for. From Lobster in Maine, to BBQ in Texas, to Seafood in oceanside restaurants on all coasts. I have had the finest meals from the finest chefs and spent lots of money on these experiences. None of these things compares to the Chicken Tenders at A&W in Russell, Kansas. The entire menu (and my sons and I have tried it all) is great. From the cheeseburgers, to the Root Beer, to the fries, to the cheese curds, there is nothing that is lacking. The chicken tenders are the best chicken I have ever tasted anywhere on earth. They are breaded and cooked perfectly. The breading is flavorful but doesn't overpower the taste of the chicken. It is as if the Angels were brought to Russell to create these breaded masterpieces made from the finest chicken to ever walk the planet. For your own good, I beseech you to stop and eat at the Russell A&W. The service is top notch and the atmosphere is exactly what you want in a restaurant. It invites you in and gives you a calm reprieve from any storm you might be facing in life.
Frosty Mug! Need I say more
