I’ve been eating at Pizza Shoppe in Western Shawnee for 20+ years. I really enjoy their pizza and am crazy about the pink stuff. I’m also very happy and willing to pay a little more for a local, family owned restaurant that is not a chain. BUT, you have to give me a little more than long wait times, apathetic employees and absolutely insane prices. In business, you have to either provide a unique product, exceptional service or be very price competitive. If you can stack two of those together, you have a banger of a business. At 5:30, on the Friday of a Chiefs game, I called in a pickup. Absolutely expected 45 minutes. When I was told 20-25 minutes, I was pleasantly surprised. I take my time, arrive 30 minutes later and am told it will be a few more minutes. That’s cool, it’s busy - I understand. 20 minutes later, I check in to see the progress and an employee grabs my pizza off the top of an oven. Slightly disappointed, but I understand they’re busy. My complaint: $27.99 for a “large” pizza feels a little crazy. Add a 50 minute wait, and it’s a head scratcher. For comparison, they call it a King (14”). Frustrated with the price, I checked a few other pizza restaurants in the area. Minsky’s has a very similar pizza for $23.99 (also 14”). Papa John’s (I know it’s a chain and one could argue flavor) had a promotion for one two topping pizza and one specialty pizza (two large pizzas) for $27.99.

I ordered 2 large salads with extra dressing to be delivered. Both salads had no dressing and I was told there was nothing they could do and were very backed up. I asked to speak to the manager and instead of getting them as requested, was told no, there was nothing he could do even though it was their error. Horrible customer service!

Ordered a pizza with light cheese and ½ pork sausage along with a side salad. It was a Sunday around 6:30 p.m. A couple of kids were working along with an older woman (manager?)

The good: There was an ample amount of sausage on the ½
pizza.

Bad: The pizza was way overcooked to the point where some of the cheese and the bottom of the crust was burned.

There was barely any cheese or sauce. I ordered light cheese, not no cheese and did NOT order light sauce. It was basically a burned crust along with a few drops of sauce and barely any cheese. It should never have been served that way.

Unfortunately, we got the order as a carryout and didn't notice it until we got home. I would never have accepted that pizza had I looked at the counter (my fault).

Salad: The lettuce was wilted which ruined the dinner completely. The pizza and salad should never have been allowed to be served even to a carryout customer.

The other Pizza Shoppe locations around town do not seem to have a quality control issue like the Shawnee location.

The good: the pizza was warm.
The bad: the service was terrible and the tables were filthy. Our waitress avoided eye contact with us - we had to flag her down to provide any service, never checked back in. She literally tossed the pizza onto the table while turning to walk away- super impressed with that pro move. It wasn’t her first rodeo.
The ugly: Let’s not forget the salad - it was so drenched with the Pink Stuff, I had to throw a life preserver in to rescue a couple strands of lettuce. To summarize- we won’t be back.

This is the second time I ordered a BBQ Chicken pizza with no bacon to go. We do not eat pork. The pizza had bacon—again. When I called to get a refund, was told they aren't allowed to do refunds. Options presented were to drive back for a pizza, drive back for them to void the order and charge me for the other pizza I ordered, or they can send me a coupon. It's hard to believe a business can exist in 2024 that can't do refunds. The staff required my phone #, email address, and home address to send a coupon. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, the individual treated me like an inconvenience. A business charging $40 for two small pizzas could benefit from a bit better customer service.

No prices on the website. This is disrespectful . We may or may not want to come to your pizza shop based on price. Now I have to call and ask or, when you come in it's super sticker shock. Why, because when you see your pizza you realize it only took like $3 to make it. All the rest goes to profits go the the upper crust of the company. This is gouging. Nearly $30 for a regular pizza is gouging. Had their prices been on the website maybe we could have made a better choice and not been so disappointed.

Go to Minsky's where for the same money you get twice the pizza.
