We had the best time for my birthday right before Christmas! It was decorated so beautifully and was really a reminder of the "steakhouses" my grandparents took me to in Iowa/Nebraska. There were still jukeboxes at the booths, seats "fixed" with duct tape and the memories of a 82 year old restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was even better. Our steak was outstanding, lots of great sides and the price was so right! We cannot wait to go back. Warning: If you are a restaurant snob, you will hate this place. That's fine because you need a reservation to get in, and us common folks pack the place, like we have for 82 years.

November 2025. There were 6 adults including me. The chicken fried steak was nothing special - bland flavor. Grandsons steak was to be med rare and it was cold, son's KC Strip was to be med well done and it was rare. Daughter said her 12 oz steak had no flavor. Steaks were inedible so they were taken home to cook more as sometimes in some restaurants sending steaks back is not a good idea at all. Complimentary fries and gravy comment is the fries are little pieces.

A wonderful steakhouse. Has drinks that remind me of drinks my dad and granddad talked about from the depression mobster era. They fix a Manhattan with southern comfort that's like the one dad made for me when I was 5. Yep. It was o e of his favorite drinks. I remember taking a couple sips a deciding coke tasted better. Dad wanted to take the mystery of alcohol out of my life so to keep me from abusing it later.

We had a great meal at North Star last night. I had delicious catfish and my husband’s Ribeye was cooked perfectly as he requested, medium. I like the throw back atmosphere. Service was excellent. We really enjoyed it and will be back.

The plain salad was room temperature. Had to pay for cheese. Just croutons. Had the KC strip and it had no flavor. A good steak should not require sauce but had to use A-1. Salt and pepper will go along way. The gravy seems just like a big can of gravy I ate in the military. I had high expectations and got disappointed. The potatoes and onion dish was good though.

Went tonight for my father in laws birthday with a party of 7. 5 of us ordered the ribeye medium rare. They all came out with no flavor except a gross char taste. Mother in law got the chicken fried steak and fries w/ gravy; the gravy was completely inedible and just tasted of burnt grease and way too much pepper! Side salads were a sad excuse of a salad also, barely any dressing with only lettuce and croutons. My husband got the Hawaiian BBQ chicken and it was way overcooked. The spicy cheese curds were the highlight of the meal. Overall it was a very disappointing experience tonight which saddens me because they used to be so good and I always like supporting local businesses over corporations. We will not be back.

Took my parents and son for his 13th birthday. Party of 6 with reservations and was overall disappointed. Steaks didn’t have any flavor to them and were literally cold. Several tables around us were served before us which made no sense because we were literally the 2nd table/group seated after doors opened. We waited 45 minutes for our dinner to be served. Gravy had no flavor. Rolls were squished up when served. Never offered a refill on ice water. Was supposed to bring another group Friday for another birthday dinner but we decided to go elsewhere. For an over $200 tab, I was so disappointed.
Very disappointed in the service and food we received last night. We received our drinks shortly after sitting down. Came back for our order 15 minutes later and then didn’t come back for another 30 minutes for drink refills and to bring us rolls. 15 minutes later we finally got our salads (1 hour mark). Our food came about 15 minutes after that. Food quality was not good. My steak tips were over cooked with no flavor. The gravy that they give us for your table was inedible. It tasted like burnt flour with no flavor at all. My husband’s food was equally disappointing. Went with 6 others and their food was either undercooked or overcooked. All of us could not believe how disgusting the gravy was. Waitress was not attentive or timely. Definitely not going back for those prices. One of the worst dining experiences we have had.
