We just celebrated our son's wedding rehearsal dinner there, and it was fantastic--Becky exceeded all our expectations: great food, great music, and wonderful ambience. She even decorated for Valentine's Day. Thank you, Becky!
Everything I have eaten has been great! Homemade from the heart.
Amazing food and service. We had the chicken fried steak breakfast and pancakes. Everything was perfect. It’s hard to find great service and food but this place has both!

Not sure it was worth the drive. Service slow. Food mediocre. Ambiance nonexistent.

Even though this restaurant is in an older building, with all the ceiling fans on, it helps keep the room from being too hot. I like the scattering of old photos and news clippings hung on the wall. This place can get busy at peak times, and you could find yourself at one of the booths. If you decide to try this place out, you might want to bring a cushion to make the seat more comfortable. Also, depending on which young person is waiting on your table, you might have a server that's diligent and bustling, or someone that barely seems to care. The young lady would sit alongside customers she knew, visiting with them. When I asked for jam for my biscuit, she specifically brought me only one kind, but brought a bowl of butter and jam to that other table where she clearly knew the customers. I really don't appreciate being snubbed.
Having tried this place on two occasions, there are a few problems that showed up both times. Overall, the biggest issue is that the owner is the sole cook, having to take on everything by herself. I don't know if she gets any help making the pies, but this is too much work for any one person to manage on their own. What this leads to is a reduction in standards, because she can't maintain quality control like she should.
For instance, my breakfast potatoes were a bit under-cooked, which isn't the sort of crunchy texture you want. A bigger blunder came from the pies though, which are quite expensive. The slice of coconut creme pie we had was well filled, but that wasn't the case with the blueberry or butterscotch, which were skimpy. It tasted good, but the meringue on the butterscotch was 4 times thicker than the filling.
Considering the portion sizes on everything else that we tried, I noticed how everything seemed smaller than you'd expect for the price. When I get a $15 chicken fried steak breakfast, I anticipate a hefty chicken fried steak. However, it was only about the size of a piece of toast. It only came with a choice of bread, 2 eggs, and potatoes as well, hardly feeling like a worthy portion for that steep cost. Although the drive out to the restaurant from Topeka was a nice change of pace, I can't say it's worth all the gas money or time. With the poor service, lack of consistent quality, and skimpy portions, I feel like we shouldn't have been charged the full amount, especially with how much we paid for the pie.
