Great little place. Very tasty food and excellent service. So why 4 stars?
A Monte Cristo sandwich is a deep fried, triple decker sandwich, not 2 pieces of grilled texas toast with maybe 2oz of meat - taste was great - cheese was flavorful, ratio was very off and it simply isn't a montecristo - even as described in the menu.
Tasted fine, just disappointed with the sandwich.

5 Stars all the way. Went in with 3 adults and 3 small children at 5:30 pm on a Friday (hadn't been there yet and I wouldn't have taken the kids in if I'd known how small and obviously made as a relaxing place for grown-ups it is) but that didn't matter! The entire staff was amazing! From the host to waitress if I could give 6 stars for service I would.
The food, OMG.. I'm fairly certain I now know what I'm ordering if I'm ever given a last meal request lol. Everyone and we've got some unbelievably picky eaters in the group loved their sandwiches and the chips are just awesome.
I really appreciate that even though it wasn't easy for them to accept our party ( they had move tables and such and we weren't the target demographic) we had an unbelievably enjoyable time and amazing meal !
Definitely give this place a shot.

The Wheel Barrel has top notch sandwiches and specialty items to eat & drink. A fun, hip vibe both inside and out. A full bar is available as well. Will return!

Randomly stopped here because of the reviews and they didn’t steer us wrong. The bartender was awesome and educated us on how they make their amazing old fashioned. Food was good too. We split the Kansan sandwich and a salad. Top spot for Topeka!

The food is always so good. Came here alone for a late lunch and it was still pretty busy. Got the special - the apple bottom sammy. Such fun fall flavors put together. Had friendly service too.

I came in from out of town and my cousin said she liked this restaurant. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. The filling was bland with dry chicken and raw bell pepper. The salsa was little more than tomato sauce. The hash browns were cooked to hard dry sticks that were inedible. It seems to be a local favorite so it obviously appeals to a different type of taste.

My husband loves grilled cheese sandwiches so had to try this restaurant. It was fantastic and so very fresh and properly made. He had Not Ya Mama BLT with house salad on the side and I had the Caprese with Mediterranean pasta salad. It was so delicious. The staff were professional and just the right amount of attentiveness. The place was cozy and the bathrooms clean and fully supplied. We shall be making this one of our go-to restaurants.

Pretty neat place to visit in NOTO. There was a 20 minutes wait when we visited for a Saturday night dinner. Prices are pretty reasonable. Quick services and lots of options for beers and cocktails.

The Wheel Barrel isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a cornerstone of the NOTO Arts & Entertainment District and a shining example of what it means to be a true community partner. Their menu is always delicious and inventive, but what makes them stand out even more is their commitment to giving back. The Wheel Barrel consistently supports initiatives that enrich Topeka’s culture and creativity. They sponsor free meals for traveling musicians at the Summer Concert Series, ensuring artists feel welcomed and cared for while sharing their talents with our community. They have donated generously to public art projects, including the rotating sculpture program, helping to make NOTO a vibrant and inspiring destination for visitors and locals alike. During the holidays, The Wheel Barrel’s generosity shines even brighter. As sponsors of the Winter Celebrations, they contribute to the joy of the season by funding the park lights that make NOTO magical each year. Their support helps create memorable experiences that bring families, neighbors, and visitors together. In every sense, The Wheel Barrel is more than a place to grab a great meal—it’s a true pillar of our community, blending culinary excellence with a heart for service, art, and celebration.

Very good sandwich Faire. 4% add on for credit or debit cards is irritating but prices are reasonable.
