I fell in love with a bowl of soup, Accidentally: Bagatelle is a family-run place, and boy, does it show. Not in a “cozy and charming” way, but more like, “I think the person making my coffee just grounded their cousin for coming in late.” There’s a vibe. Not bad, just... emotionally charged. It’s like walking into Thanksgiving dinner an hour early.
To their credit, the owners seem deeply “inventested” (a word I assume means emotionally attached and financially entangled). You can tell they care. Not in a corporate “your feedback is important to us” way, but more like, “if you say something bad about our leek potato soup, we will cry in the walk-in fridge.”
The menu is surprisingly good, though. The beef sandwich was also excellent—roughly the size of a carry-on suitcase. I ate half, wrapped the rest like a small dog, and considered naming it. It was that good, and that large. I briefly fantasized about splitting rent with it.
Now, the leek potato soup. My God. I was not emotionally prepared. It was creamy, savory, and oddly therapeutic, like it could resolve a childhood trauma if you had enough of it. I wanted to cancel the rest of my plans, buy a ladle, and just live off that soup until someone noticed I was missing.
I briefly considered starting a new life entirely—Soup Person. Soup for breakfast, soup for lunch, soup as an apology, soup as a love language. If you’ve ever looked at someone mid-sip and thought, “That’s all I want from life,” this is that soup.
And then there were the pastries. Daily, they say. Which in theory means they are baked fresh, but in practice means they are dangerously warm and visually seductive. I stared at a croissant like it had just asked me for my number.
It’s absolutely worth your money, your time, and a follow-up session with your therapist to unpack why you cried a little halfway through a bowl of potato.
My next appointment is Tuesday. We’ll start with “the soup thing” and see where it goes.

Wow! This place is such a hidden gem! Our group was beyond impressed. All of the food was soooo good, do not miss the Manoushi or the cinnamon rolls! I don't think you can go wrong with any of the bakery items either. If you visit in the fall we decided the pumpkin bread was the best we have ever had. The staff is really nice and I am so thankful they are sharing their Lebanese heritage and food with Wichita!

The food was so delicious! I had a ham and cheese croissant and it was so fresh and delicious! I also had the potato soup and it was full of flavor!
