Lived in Wichita for 34 years. It took a LONG time to find El Rancho! Not everyone's cup of tea - if you want atmosphere = Carlos. Wichita "tradition" = Felipe's (we hate it). Expensive = Abuelos. Old school = Connie's. But El Rancho is our favorite. Inexpensive, AUTHENTIC, some of the best Chile Rellenos ever -- and we've been to Olvera St. in L.A. and had good Mex in AZ and Colorado. El Rancho is a truly authentic Mexican restaurant, not your typical taco bell. The food is really good, especially the breakfast eggs and tortas. The barbacoa lonches and Chile relleno are top choices with consistent quality. The gorditas with flour tortillas are a must-try and are exceptional, setting a high standard for Mexican food. The place is always packed, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, but it's worth the wait. The service is fast and friendly, although there have been a few times when orders were incorrect. The parking is convenient with a fairly good size lot, so there is usually no waiting for a spot. Overall, El Rancho is a bomb of flavors that will make you want to come back for more. It is also a really fun place for families.
