One of the best old school operations I can imagine are still in operation. Friendly staff, and equally friendly patrons. Wife and I brought our kids in for the first time tonight. We were greeted by people walking in, sitting just behind the entry door, and from behind the counter.
Food was great, prices were good. We will swing in every chance we get on the way up to Cincinnati.

Always a great time going to a classic. Consistently great quality. Usually best to go during some slower times since seating is limited. My favorite time capsule of a restaurant.

If you love a thin burger with crispy edges . Then this is your place! Serving grippos chips vs fries is honestly a great pairing. Full bar, personable staff . Definitely a gem! Cash only but don't let that deter you!

Best burger and coldest draft beer in-the city
OMG...talk about amazing. I travel the country for one of my side hustles and I look for places like this. Absolutely one of the best neighborhood taverns I've ever been in. You need to go! An experience to not be missed!!
By the way...get a burger with the fried egg and bacon on it. It's amazing....

On my way through Cov. Taking care of business. My pit stop quick bite to eat. Good burger on the run and a coldie. 💜👍

Best homemade cheeseburger awesome friendly service if sitting at table place your order at bar very small because the building is very old with a lot of history which is so cool … we are losing these gems … definitely stop by for a burger and cold beer or drink

I went to Herb and Thelma’s for the first time. It did not disappoint. Very tasty, juicy burgers. Delicious sauerkraut. Manhattan to rival any other Manhattan from an upscale bar. Everyone is friendly. Such a fun atmosphere. Be prepared to be surprised by the food and friendly atmosphere. Cash only.

Basic burger with chips and canned soda. Place carries an old school bar vibe but welcoming to all types. Service is friendly and quick.

I truly take no pleasure in saying this, but this was one of the most disappointing and over-hyped burgers I’ve had in the Cincinnati/NKY area. For all the praise Herb & Thelma’s burgers get, what I experienced was closer to something you’d throw together at home at 3am: plain, unseasoned beef on a grocery store bun, with zero flavor beyond “greasy meat.” The bun itself was soggy and small, which only made the texture worse. Honestly, I’ve had more satisfying burgers from carnival stands and backyard cookouts.
To be clear, I wasn’t expecting a gourmet burger, just a solid, no-frills bar burger, but this fell below even that standard. Compared to the other local taverns/diners in the area, this is by far the weakest I’ve had.
I’m not sure if the reputation comes from nostalgia or just the “dive bar charm,” but if you’re going specifically for the burger, I think you’ll be disappointed. Between the hype and the reality, the gap was huge.
I won’t be returning for food.
