For an “upscale” restaurant, Lockbox was full of surprises - mostly the kind that make you double-check your purse for your EpiPen.

One of our guests has a severe tree nut allergy, which we made crystal clear. Our waitress promptly brought out the nut-friendly menu. Great start, right? You’d think we were in good hands. Wrong.

We ordered dirty martinis (the waitress seemed unfamiliar with this two ingredient drink) and the feta appetizer without almonds. Thirty minutes later, the appetizer arrived… topped with, you guessed it, almonds. Bold move for a dish that could’ve come with a complimentary ambulance ride.

Meanwhile, our martinis were still MIA. After forty minutes (and a half-dozen “the bar’s just backed up” apologies) the waitress sprinted over to ask what our drink order was again. That was our cue to tap out.

They did comp the potentially fatal appetizer, which was considerate. Two stars for that, and for providing one of the more memorable dining experiences we’ve almost survived.

The kitchen was very backed up. Took over an hour to get apps without a ton of communication from server (who was very nice!). So they brought us an extra app and apologized....and the food, when it came was exceptional!

We started out with some communication hiccups, but the manager Brian turned it around and ended with a great experience. Food was fantastic (highly recommend the burger and fries) and atmosphere was great.

Cool ambiance but didn't find any food appetizing outside of appetizers. Thought about a cheeseburger but you can get those anywhere. The appetizers were good. We had the meatballs and the roasted feta. Service was slow which was sup rising since it was not busy except for a big private party. Banana old fashioned was good, the one I got was very tart and small. The nutmeg got completely lost in the drink. Two drinks was $33. We likely won't go back.

We were visiting Lexington and excited to dine at Lockbox since we've stayed at 21c hotels in Louisville and Chicago and enjoyed the restaurants there. Dinner was frustrating. The wine I ordered from the specials wine list wasn't available, I was served something I didn't order by mistake, my husband had to request a steak knife for his dinner and the bill was wrong when it arrived. The venue is gorgeous and the food we had was fine, but just a lot of gaps in service esp as the restaurant was about half full. On a positive note the woman working at the hotel's front desk found an umbrella for me to borrow as it had started raining while we were at dinner. With more training and attention to detail this could be a lovely downtown restaurant.

Sam was our server and she was amazing! Recommendations for shareable on point and she was professional and attentive. Kudos!!! Love the vibe here. Those oysters — literal chef's kiss.

Ate here a few times while staying at the hotel. The burger and the pork belly are fantastic. We enjoyed the wine and bourbon selections. The only dish we tried that we didn't care for were the sausage balls, a bit overlooked and very crunchy. Would eat here again.

The Blue Crab Gnocchi was absolutely amazing! You could taste the care and love put into the dish, and the portion was perfect—not too much, just enough to leave you satisfied.

The sauce that accompanies the meatballs is outstanding. Burger was a hit and the fish was crispy and cooked to perfection. Service was slow and not attentive despite there being only a few tables. Other than that I would highly recommend.

Delicious food that could fit a broad audience palate wise. We had dinner here and the service was excellent. Portions are on the smaller end.

Really delicious food, and excellent service. We enjoyed the non alcoholic cocktail too - “Girl Next Door” best mocktail we have ever had. Make sure you save room for dessert

The gnocchi is great! Tomato soup was excellent as well. And, if you're staying at the 21C, you just go down the elevator and you're there

Crab gnocchi and rabbit tagliatelle were both reasonably priced and delicious. The asparagus on whipped feta with olives was absolutely amazing! Full of flavor and punch. Dishes were visually appealing, the bibb salad with strawberries and yogurt dressing was very shareable. Great wine and drink selection. Consistently excellent food and service. Highly recommend this restaurant.
