To the owner- you better fire every employee and start over. What happened to the McCarthy’s I loved? Smart-ass 18 yr old boy at the door, filthy interior, rude Latino bartender, no one drinking, underage college girls. Stayed 3 minutes and left. How embarrassing. Went to The Jockey who has excellent food, pleasant employees, racing on the screens, clean interior and legit Irish tending the bar and serving drinks with a smile. Maybe McCarthy’s should be a cantina instead.

This place just tried to keep my 24yo (25 in November) daughter’s ID. The little man working the door put it in his pocket and told her it was fake! She had to call the police to get it back. I understand taking your job seriously but you let your little man syndrome get in the way tonight dude! I’m so thankful she is nicer than I am. I would have caused a huge scene. The best part was he gave it back when she called his bluff by calling the police but then told her she couldn’t come in. Wow! What a great business. So to anyone over 21, be careful. They will try to steal your ID!!

Best bar in Lexington. Haven’t been there for 13 years but who cares. Most fun I’ve had in my years before or since. Also, I returned the pitchers I snuck out before I left town in 2013. Look carefully by the door. I felt bad for sneaking them out…. But they were quite the prize at the time. I returned them intact. One we actually carried back to our hotel. Homewood suites. That was a walk. Never forget those days and McCarthy’s. Best. Bar. Ever.
