The veggie combo deal is a great value, generous portions that are perfect for sharing, fresh flavors, and a nice variety. One combo easily serves two people, making it ideal to bring a friend. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying, and the deal makes it even better. Definitely worth it if you’re looking for a filling, vegan-friendly option.

The veggie combo and lentil sambusas were absolutely delicious! I had the lunch special which included five vegan dishes along with a salad on injeera bread. I highly recommend this restaurant!

I was surprised and pleased to find an Ethiopian restaurant within walking distance of the hotel (Omni Louisville). Went with a group of colleagues and we had a wonderful time.

We were a party of 10 so made a reservation. They were ready for us when we arrived. The food options were plentiful. I had the Beef Tibs (mild) and they were very tasty and well spiced. The lentil sambusas were also excellent and for dessert the biggest piece of baclava I’ve ever seen.

Unfortunately I don’t live in Louisville but if I’m ever in town again I will be back.

I'm a food snob and this is some of the best food I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy!

I made a reservation for 4th of July and got confirmation for twice. Then, when we went to the restaurant, it was closed. When I called them in front of the restaurant, I heard the phone was ringing at the restaurant. We really are looking forward to the foods and very disappointed.

You walk in off 5th Street and the air changes, spiced, warm, alive. Abyssinia doesn’t just serve food; it tells stories in berbere and garlic, in slow-simmered stews and injera that stretches like a map of somewhere far from Kentucky but somehow right at home.

The combo platters are a revelation, beef wot that hums with heat, lentils that comfort like a lullaby, and sambusas that crunch like a well-kept secret. You eat with your hands, because that’s how it’s meant to be done. Communal. Honest. No pretense.

The staff? Kind. The space? Unassuming but full of soul. And the coffee, Ethiopian, rich, ceremonial, feels like a benediction at the end of a meal that’s more experience than transaction.

This isn’t just dinner. It’s a passport stamp. A reminder that the world is wide, and sometimes, it’s waiting for you in downtown Louisville.

I am veg and had a delicious, all-veg meal here. The coffee ceremony at the end where they roast the beans just for you was a special experience too, with the fresh made popcorn at the end.

I was in Louisville for work and decided to try Abyssinian Restaurant, what a great choice! I ordered the Beef Tibse to go, and it was incredibly flavorful and authentic, just like a home-cooked Eritrean and Ethiopian meal. You can really taste the care and tradition in every bite. The staff was also very warm and welcoming. A truly special spot, I’m so glad I found it and will definitely be back next time I’m in town!

I come here for lunch all the time and get the veggie platter or spicy mushroom tips. Great food and fast service! Can get in and out in about 30 minutes.
