I come here for lunch all the time and get the veggie platter or spicy mushroom tips. Great food and fast service! Can get in and out in about 30 minutes.

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and it was a very enjoyable experience. I had the beef sambusas and the meat combo plate. The owner was very nice and expedient. I enjoyed this place mostly for the experience, the salad was excellent, everything I tried was good. I liked being able to try several different options.

What a great dinning experience! Presentation, service, environment, pricing, staff, etc were all excellent. There was a closer similar restaurant to my hotel but I'm glad I chose Abyissania instead. It was worth the walk.

Vegetarian options: They offered almost the same amount of veg dishes as meat dishes. Im not vegetarian or vegan but always order a veg dish bc they know what they're doing.

Dietary restrictions: Vegan and vegetarian options. Menu notes what dishes are spicy and how spicy.

Parking: There's an affordable lot across the street and ample street parking.

Kid-friendliness: If your kids like the food, the setting is appropriate. Not a lot of fragile stuff or decor to accidentally bump into.

Wheelchair accessibility: Wide walkways and freestanding tables to accommodate accessibility. Single room bathrooms that are big enough for a wheelchair.

This is hands down one of the best places to eat in Louisville, period. Everything you would expect of a great experience is here: excellent service, authentic atmosphere, and absolutely delectable food. Meals offer a wide variety of savory tastes that blend well with each other, and encourage sharing. Portions are incredibly generous and I have found we often have leftovers after a stop here. The staff is attentive and friendly, and make sure we always have a full glass or a fresh basket of bread. And for an experience like this, it is all shockingly affordable as well. Do yourself a favor and stop in for lunch or dinner and try something new. Bring a friend or two, order a combination platter and enjoy the best authentic Ethiopian food in Louisville.

Vegetarian options: Ethiopian cuisine offers a lot of heart veggie options such as carrots, potatoes, lentils and chickpeas, all simmered in savory spices and served fresh off the stove. Additionally, a more American style salad of lettuce, tomato and onion is offered with most meals.

I don’t normally write reviews, however, this was hands down one of my best dining experiences. Ever. The food is amazing. Full of flavor with plenty of spice. Family style and shareable is the way to go. The server (who I would guess to be the owner), was extremely welcoming and helpful. Happily explained things we had questions about and full of recommendations. The only, and I mean ONLY, reason I don’t give full five stars on atmosphere, is because I fully believe that this place should be packed all the time. Definitely a hidden gem in the large city. Would recommend to anyone, anytime. 10/10! Also, the baklava is insanely delicious. Don’t pass on dessert.

I love Ethiopian and was excited to try Abyssinia when I was visiting town. This restaurant blew my previous favorite Ethiopian restaurant in DC away. Everything was delicious. We got the lamb tibs with mushrooms, meat combo sampler, and some sambusas. Do yourself a favor and go get a meal here!
