The food here is so fresh, so flavorful and just an amazing experience. The staff are kind and take time to explain things so dont worry if youve never had somalian food before. I ordered chicken legs and chicken kofta one with rice and one with spaghetti. They both come with fresh cooked veggies and the rice came with a spinach and bean side in a cup that was sooooo good. I recommend the rice over the spaghetti because its so fragrant, seasoned right and came with that extra side. The food was so yummy like you went to someones house and ate, super authentic which is the best for places like this. The chickem was so tender it literally came away with a plastic fork and its was so juicy. I also highly recommend the mango lassi its was sweet, creamy and refreshing. And like with most authentic Somali places the meals came with a banana and a bottle of water. Will definately be back to try more!

If you’re looking for a hidden gem in Louisville, Banaadir Cafe and Grill is definitely a place worth visiting. From the moment you walk in, you can immediately tell the restaurant takes pride in cleanliness and presentation. Everything looked very well organized, neat, and thoughtfully put together, which made for a great first impression.
The East African and Mediterranean influence in both the décor and menu brings a warm and positive energy to the space. The atmosphere feels cozy and welcoming, almost like a neighborhood diner where everyone feels like a regular. It’s the kind of place where you can feel comfortable whether you’re dining in for the first time or the tenth time.
One of the highlights of our visit was having the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly kind and friendly. You could tell they genuinely cared about the customers and the experience they were providing. The staff matched that same energy, offering friendly and attentive service throughout our visit. What really stood out was hearing other customers walking in and greeting the staff while praising their hospitality. That alone says a lot about the type of environment they’ve created.
The food selection was excellent, with plenty of great options to choose from. We had the chance to try the chicken and beef suqaar, goat, lamb, sambusas, and fish, and everything was flavorful and well prepared. The dessert selection was also impressive and worth saving room for.
This was our first visit, and even though my family and I were in a bit of a rush, we all really enjoyed the experience. It left a great impression on us, and we are already planning to come back for round two to try even more of the menu.

Pleasant, quiet on a Sunday, and great service. Nice spot, accessible and easy to park at. Thanks a bunch guys.
As soon as I walked through the doors I was transported back to East Africa. The whole fried tilapia was cooked perfectly and the biryani rice full of flavor. Samosas with meat and chicken left our mouths watering for more. Great portion sizes. This left me remembering village life in Uganda. Thank you Banaadir!
