Reading about Checks we had expected a good lunch and a cold beer. This was our first visit to Checks. Upon arriving we looked for a menu, we were informed by an unfriendly statement “read the white board for today’s special. read the above board for everyday menu, and read it fast is changes to next page quickly”, by the rude person behind the bar. Well trying to read a menu board that changes before you get two appetizers read, was so confusing because you had to wait for it to flip back to get to look and continue to pick something out. We explained it was our first time there, could we have a proper menu to read?”No read the two boards,but the rude lady behind the counter could care less. Regulars behind me were telling her “ my usual “, being fed up with us trying to gather a glimpse of the moving menu. My friend said the hell with it and ordered a special and a beer, I saw they had chili so I got that and a beer. Beer was Flat, my chili tasted like spaghetti sauce with meat, and the cornbread was still runny in the middle. My friends side items Mac n cheese had to be sent back it wasn’t even warm and her broccoli and cheese was like baby food. Left with little eaten, left more beer in my glass then I ever do. Glad we didn’t tip before yes before we sat and got food, because none was earned or deserved. NEVER AGAIN will we go to this place. Not worth a dollar. On a scan of 1-10 1 being the worse, 10 the best

It's an order at the counter establishment. The staff was very efficient taking the order. Food came out in a decent time. I had the Reuben with onion rings. Highly recommend the Reuben sandwich! Husband was very pleased with his fried fish sandwich. He said the French fries were very good. Son had a Cheeseburger, loved it! It's a great place for a meal and a drink.

Seemed shorthanded, but the food was really good. Fish is excellent. Grill cheese, chili, onion rings and fries. All hot and fresh. However, owners/managers were openly talking in the dining room about people not being there. Bartender was overwhelmed and just a little rude.

The staff is amazing! Tanya is the kindest and most efficient bartender I have ever met. Not to take away from the other staff! The other bartenders, cooks, servers and support staff are awesome as well! The food is just as great as I remember from the 1970's, 80's and 90's! I LOVE to visit Check's every time I come back home!

Interesting neighborhood bar/café. Saturday at lunch was very busy. I recommend the chili cheese dog. My wife enjoyed her bratwurst, but thought it was small.
