I cant say enough good things about our experience in both the bar and restaurant 10 of 10. After 7 days of touring the bourbon trail this was an amazing end to our Kentucky trip. The drinks in the bar were fantastic and Chris made sure to make it extra special with some of Kentuckys best pours of bourbon. Chris put together a flight of Old Forester Birthday 2023, Blue Run 14 year and a King of Kentucky 18 year. They were exactly what I was looking for and not overpriced. The four of us all enjoyed the southern hospitality we experienced at the Brown. Off to dinner Jamall was our waiter and Chris extended his service from the bar to us for the evening. The ladies had wine while us guys had bourbon and the Kentucky mules that were the best ever. We all had a bit of food that was sure to continue our journey. The starters Beat salad Shrimp bisque And Crab cakes All were as good as ever! Entrees 2 orders of short ribs Filet And the best of all the Hot Brown! Desert We were all ready for the sweets as we continued to make ourselves a bit more full. Bread pudding Crème brûlée Derby pie and it was spectacular! Thanks to Chris for that special treat!!!! All in all this was the best meal of the trip and we ate at the best!!! Again an awesome experience met with fantastic staff..... Thank you so much Wade and Angie

Very nice historic restaurant with professional staff. We had a great dinner and tried the famous Hot Brown. Jamal the waiter was especially great

So it’s definitely open, unsure as to why it says it closed. Ate there on Saturday evening (12/17). The atmosphere was wonderful, as was the bar service prior to our meal. The meal itself was just okay. We of course got the Hot Brown as an appetizer, which is always great. However, the other entrees were subpar. I had the $50+ steak and it was bland and relied on the sauce that was nothing to rave about. My husband got the Bolognese, again nothing to rave about. The company we were with got the braised short ribs that were good, but fairly typical.

Great service, great setting in a historic hotel, and great food. Highly recommend the scallops (perfectly cooked) and the bolognese, which has a hearty and flavorful sauce that is chock full of beef and pork. Also, the hot brown is always a good choice. Where it originated and can't get much better. The roast turkey is moist and delicious and the mornay sauce covers every bite. Cocktails at the restaurant and bar are expertly made. Try a Sazerac cocktail or an Old fashioned. Finally, we loved the desserts. The chocolate striptease was good, but The bread pudding and derby pie were to die for.

Lived in Louisville all my life and have have eaten at the English Grill or had a KY Hot Brown. But today was the day. We were downtown on an errand and decided last minute to have dinner and decided on the grill. I did get a reservation through Open Table for 5 pm, the time they opened.. there were very few folks there at that time but it was a full house by the time we left at 6.30ush. Staff were excellent, polite kind and efficient, from the host, waiter, asst waiter, room captain and manager. We opted for the French fries as an appetizer, without the spices or smokey ketchup and absolutely loved then,, shoestring fries that were crispy and hot and a huge serving. We then delete the KY Hot Brown. Glad we tried it but not really my thing. Turkey was tender, bread seemed a bit dry to me, would have preferred the tomato sliced on the sandwich rather than a couple of pieces on the platter, bacon wad good and the mornay sauce was creamy, but not consistent throughout the dish. But again glad I tried it first at the Brown Hotel where it originated. The creme Brulee was an excellent dessert choice. We were both hungry and spilt all three items, with a cup of coffee and had ample food. The creme Brulee and the French fries we would return for and try other dishes next time. My only complaint was the resturant was not super clean. We sat in the back room and it was pretty dusty, crumbs on the floor and dark.

An elegant upscale restaurant in a historic hotel. I had a salmon Caesar for dinner. It was exceptional. My wife and I shared a brown derby for dessert that didn't disappoint.

We loved dining at the English Grill! The Hot Browns were delicious and are definitely a must when dining here. The staff was very friendly and attentive to our needs and even went out of their way to have a handwritten note for my wife that I had requested through my OpenTable reservation. Thank you to all who made our night extra special at the English Grill!

What an amazing place to experience. The Brown is an absolutely glorious glimpse into the golden age of Old Louisville. The English Grill offered a spectacular breakfast in a setting of racehorse oil paintings, carved wooden dining furniture, and velvet curtains draping stain glass windows. Food was so good that we are all still talking about it. Our server was very down-to-earth and courteous. Start to finish, loved every detail. This is a must to really experience Louisville.

I’ve lived in Kentucky my whole life and never had a Hot Brown from here until today. Worth the wait-worth the hype. Delicious Hot Brown, yummy cocktail (I had one with Four Roses bourbon, lemonade and honey) and amazing dessert (crème brûlée). The service was outstanding! Definitely recommend for locals and tourists alike!
