I was in the area and decided I want to try a few different places. So I went to the Payne Street Bakehouse and got a bacon cheese and egg on everything bagel. It was pretty tasty for what it was I probably should've got some kind of sauce or something to put on it I think because it was a little dry so I think if I was to go again I will get one with cream cheese or something infused in the middle. But overall cute little place for sure that I could see why people like and I would be back again

Payne street bake house is a breakfast and brunch establishment located on the Irish hill springs neighborhood of Lousiville Kentucky in Butchertown at the the intersection of spinet and Payne street. On my birthday morning I was looking for a new place to try pastries and coffee and maybe a place that also offered breakfast sandwiches. I read about Payne street Bakehouse and we made the trip. The exterior is very modern and has some cool things such as a cow statue that my two year old loved. The inside has a farmhouse meets traditional coffee/bagel house feel and setup. Service here was very friendly, accommodating and quick. I personally ordered a started of a cinnamon roll, a hot chocolate and a bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich on an everything bagel. My wife went with the the hammer bagel which was a ham, bacon, egg and jalapeño cream cheese on a plain bagel. My hot chocolate was very tasty and good. One of the better ones I've had. I'm a huge fan of breakfast bagels so l loved my bacon egg and cheese bagel. The everything bagel itself had a nicks flavor in its own. I split the cinnamon roll with the 2 year old. It was ok. Decent flavor but would of been much better warm or heated up. It came In a plastic casing so taking it home and heating it up may be preferable for our next visit. My wife said her hammer sandwich was very good. She was a big fan of the jalapeño cream cheese. Said very unique and flavorful. Overall was a great visit and had really good food. A cool place to start my birthday off right. We will be return customers. My older daughters who were in school during that time seen my pictures and got jealous. So they are excited to try Payne street Bakehouse.

Great place for a quick breakfast sandwich. They have coffee and a variety of breakfast bagels. My favorite is the willinger. Place is very small (only a handful of tables) but cozy.

Their pastries are the bees knees. Lovely little shop and very friendly people!I highly recommend the scones! One of my complaints is that they don't make hardly any of their pastry pricing available so you have to ask about any item you would like to purchase.

Best bagels in Louisville. Legit boil and bake. Get the herb cream cheese and thank me later. My only complaint is they won't toast it for you but you can do it yourself. But they are usually still warm from the oven!

The food was good but the customer service was severely lacking. The general feel was you were bothering them. Food wasn’t so great that I’d put up with the lack of quality service again.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while but it ended up kind of disappointing. The inside is cute and the baked goods displays were very tempting, but I ordered The Rooney and an iced latte. It took between 20-30 minutes to get my food (at peak hours, so not surprising -- they were absolutely slammed). The bagel was just barely warm when I received it but absolutely delicious, especially the veggie cream cheese! My iced latte came out hot and the barista seemed annoyed when I asked to have it fixed, so I ended up taking the hot latte since I couldn't wait. It was both weak and unflavored, so I ended up throwing it away after I burned my tongue as well.I want to come back during non-peak hours to see if I have a different experience -- I really want to like this place and hopefully I just came in at a bad time or on a bad day.

I really enjoy this bakery. I make a point to go there whenever I am nearby. Their baked items are perfect in my opinion and the coffee is good. I think the only downside I can see is there is not a lot of seating.

As nostalgic as I am for Nancy’s Bagels and willing to allow mistakes based on that nostalgia, the bake house is decidedly hit or miss. Some days great, other days the bagels are clearly stale and hard enough to chip a tooth on. The staff is awesome and always helpful, but clearly the management makes some questionable decisions. I’ve even heard rumors of off hand racial comments that are quite disturbing. As a brunch spot they try to do a million different things and everything suffers because of it. Focus in, and this place could be great.

I wish I could give this bakery more than 5 stars. My sister and I were passing through Louisville and were looking for a place to get really good bagels that we could use to make breakfast for dinner. We found this place but by the time we got there, they had just closed. We were trying to find another bagel shop when a woman (I assume the owner) came up to us and said she would open up for us to get what we needed. So incredibly kind! The bagels were delicious (plain, sesame, and rosemary herb). They were soft and chewy and flavorful-everything you could want in a bagel. The owner even offered a few homemade dog treats to our pup. He loved them so much that they were gone in an instant! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Louisville!

Boyfriend and I stayed in Louisville for a Bourbon Trail weekend and this place had the best bagel sandwiches for us to pick up and go on our way out to the distilleries! I got The Rooney and bf got The Hammer. Absolutely delicious and filling but not too much.. perfect start before a day of drinking bourbon!I will say that the sandwiches were a little messy coupled with driving but we managed fine! Would definitely come here again if we come back!
