I had been hearing about this place for years and finally made a visit. I'll put it like this, it wasn't to my liking. I was going to be descriptive about my experience, but it was fire to somebody, so I'll just say it wasn't good as a whole.
Before I came to Louisville, I googled soulfood places with chitlins. Breakdown, the price was fine. The food was horrible. Mac n cheese taste like it came out of a box with powder cheese. Cabbage, no flavor, yams had some type of syrup with an aftertaste, chicken wasn't cooked (who wants light skin chicken) and the chitlins had no flavor whatsoever. The cornbread was straight. They had no greens, yams wasn't ready, but after we waited for over an hour, they were. No one liked the food from my group. The best part, the guy across the street asked if we were thirsty and brought us over some Jack Daniels wine coolers while we waited. I don't complain much, but this... Yeah, NO. I so wanted to like this place. You can call in order and wait outside, but you can't call in chitlins and it takes forever for someone to come to window.

The food was over priced. I ordered a pork chop dinner that came with one pork chop. The Mac and cheese was average. The collard greens were probably the best thing on the plate and they were bland. Also ordered the baked chicken dinner and was charged $7 for and additional quarter(the meal was $9). And everything is conducted at a window. There is no indoor seating.

Was in Louisville this wkend…wanted some food that i always known to be delicious..but I’m sadly to say…was the worst’s food I’ve ever had…the fish i ordered…must had went bad!!!… and instead of the lady telling me they were out of fish and to order something else..,she puts salt/seasonings on it..ordered greens..they were good..but portion was so small..for full price!!! potato salad..was like..mashed potatoes!!..the corn bread was delicious!!..back to the fish..after tasting it and seeing how bad it was..I threw it out for the neighborhood cat to eat…the cat..wouldn’t even eat it!!!..that’s how bad it was!!!…spending my hard earned money and them giving me food that they had to know was not worth it..had me so disappointed…that i would never ever visit Shirley Mae’s again!!.. it really saddens me to write this review!!..if tha fish is bad..please don’t serve it..if you don’t have enough of something..ask the person to order something else..don’t just take peoples money!!

Im so disappointed in this restaurant...ms Shirley definitely would not be accepting this ...I waited 145 minutes for uncooked chicken ..side orders was bland and unseasoned... This isn't the Shirley maes I know... Very bad service and food ..Im upset just writing this cause I was very hungry and to wait almost 2 hrs for uncooked or seasoned food is a disgrace to her legacy
