Definitely a hidden gem, my husband and I stopped in after our bike ride near LSU lakes. My grandmother recommended Café Express as the best option for comfort food in Baton Rouge. Everything here was delicious, and of good quality, nothing processed. Highly recommend

Delicious, fast, down to earth, home cooked soul food. Super friendly owners. Seating for ~10 inside. Not sure there could be a better option for lunch in the area. Come early, come often.
Absolutely phenomenal oxtail, collard/mustard greens, and red beans. Candied Yams were like dessert - to be expected.

I came for lunch today ( I really needed a home cooked meal). To my surprise everything was delicious! From the meatloaf, to the cabbage and candied yams and let's not forgot my cornbread muffins. Thanks and my coworker and myself will be back!
I ate my food too fast to take a photo… love this place I found out about them when I first moved here and all their plates tastes like a good Sunday afternoon after church at your granny house. I love everything in that restaurant but the oxtail and smothered chicken is chefs kiss

If you haven't tried the breakfast then you are definitely missing out. They say breakfast is the.most important meal of the day. Well this breakfast definitely gives a boost of energy. Don't be stingy with yourself, get the two meats and all the bells and whistles. Good folks and recognize those that support their efforts!
