Visited on 3/1/26 started the evening with the crawfish which were very good! HOWEVER, my entree was TERRIBLE! I had the chicken Breaux Bridge which lacked flavor AND WAS SIMPLY TASTELESS! We informed our very friendly waitress Kinsey who indicated we would have to speak with a manager about changing the entree. The manager arrived to the table (Ms. Monique) and instructed us that I could order another entree but I would have to pay for them both! She also indicated that they have an ALL SALES ARE FINAL policy! MEANING if you don’t like your meal you can’t exchange it but you can PURCHASE an additional meal! WOW in all my years of patronizing restaurants I’ve never experience such a thing! Basically, in all accounts THEY WIN if you don’t care for your meal! I STRONGLY advise that you visit this establishment with extreme caution! Especially if you’re like myself and own two food establishments and know how food should taste!! Sincerely A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER!

The place has a warm, relaxed vibe with a strong local touch. Our server was outstanding, polite, attentive, truly welcoming. The food was a highlight of the visit. The menu features a wide variety of local favorites, plus sandwiches, soups, salads for every taste. A wonderful spot for a comfortable, enjoyable meal.

I discovered this place looking for somewhere to get a salad after taking in a movie near by. Was quite pleased to find a true Americana café w/ an upscale yet super casual atmosphere. Nice music stream. Great menus choices. The food tasted as good as it read on the menu. Server, Ellie, was personable & attentive. Food came quickly, obviously freshly prepared to order. Will revisit when next in Baton Rouge.

I stopped in for a kid-free lunch date before school pickup and tried the lunch special with soup and 4 chargrilled oysters. The oysters were clean and cooked well, but a bit too heavy on the lemon for my taste. The lunch special portion was just enough for lunch. The seafood gumbo was extremely flavorful with a little kick, and I would definitely order it again. The shrimp & crab bisque was amazing – rich, comforting, and the kind of soup you want the recipe for. I had the NOLA fried chicken sandwich. It was good, but not very flavorful on its own, so I had to doctor it up a bit. The fries were good, especially with ranch and a drizzle of Tony’s. Our bill was about $28 per person including fountain drinks, which felt fair for what we got. We sat outside during a busy lunch rush, but the service stayed friendly and fairly quick. Overall, I’d rate it 4/5. A solid local lunch spot in Baton Rouge, and I would definitely go back, especially for the gumbo and shrimp & crab bisque.

I ordered catfish atchafalaya. The whole plate was seasoned and the sauce was overly thick. It was also catfish strips not filets. Even the bread was just a piece of white bread. I told my server it was horrible and he did nothing about it!

My family and I have been going to this establishment for over a decade because we like the food, the service, and atmosphere and we hadn’t really had any major issues until today. We sat down, ordered our drinks, after a while, we proceeded to order our meals. We then realized we wanted some onion rings as they looked good on the neighbor’s plate. When we received the onion rings, they were cold and soggy as if they sent us an order that was messed up which had been sitting under the heat lamp, I told the guy who dropped them onion rings off that the rings were cold cold, he didn’t anything, just picked them up and took them to the back. A couple of minute later, he came back out with the rings. Same soggy rings just warm. they looked and felt like they had been microwaved. We set them aside waiting for the server to back to the table to tell her to just take them off our ticket. By this time our food had already taken a long time. The server looked my way and I guess she saw my face of discontent and figured something was going on. She came to our table and said I’m sorry for the long wait it shouldn’t be much longer. By this time we were already bothered and ready to go, as we are getting ready to get out of our seats, here comes I guess she was a manager with our food and she is wondering what’s going on. I proceeded to explain to her the situation with the onion rings -and the food taking for ever. All she was “well the food is here now.” and I said to her that we were leaving and that they needed to cancel it. Nothinf else was said to us. Just ok! It’s just above me how after coming here for over a decade, we had this experience, not to mention the quality of the food is not half of what it used to. We are still in awe. Today was just a horrible experience. They should be ashamed of serving food like the onion rings they brought out to us. I expect that at any fast food establishment but not City Cafe.

Food wasn’t really seasoned to my liking but the presentation was good. The spinach dip was delicious as an appetizer. Jaime’s service was really good and she served with a smile! The atmosphere was lovely for a date night. I will be back even if I have to add a little salt and pepper. 😁

This is one of my favorite local spots! I eat here almost once a week when time permits. My go to entrée is the grilled chicken dinner. However this is the only restaurant where I venture out and try new things on the menu and it has never disappointed. The shrimp and grits are easily on my top 5 shrimp and grits list. Pecan Crusted chicken salad is to die for! The bacon honey mustard salad dressing could be sold for profit it’s so delicious!! Ronnie is my most favorite server. She is phenomenal; however, I have never had a server that wasn’t great. I will continue to try new things. I have almost tried everything on the menu 😂. One Sunday I’d like to try their brunch!
