While visiting Baton Rouge for an unexpected procedure our 3 year old daughter had to undergo, my wife and I found ourselves running on little sleep and vending machine snacks for two days. We were exhausted and needed a real meal, something comforting and delicious. That’s when we remembered Elsie’s Plate and Pie, which we recently heard about because it’s going to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. If Guy Fieri is making the trip to Louisiana for it, we figured it must be worth a visit, and wow, it absolutely was! I ordered the Crawfish Hand Pie with a side of red beans and rice, and my wife chose the Seafood Pot Pie. Both dishes were packed with flavor, and the freshness of the seafood was unmistakable. For dessert, we treated ourselves to slices of Almond Joy pie, and it was the perfect sweet ending to our meal. Elsie’s truly hit the spot when we needed it most. We’ll definitely be back!

Very authentic, Southern leaning towards Cajun food. This is the place you should visit in baton rouge.

Excellent food with good service. The grills were super good. We got shrimp Diablo and blackened fish. Both were superb. The double smash burger was special for the day and was delicious. The best thing for me was the almond pie. The waitress was fast and nice to accommodate our infants high chair in the busy space and paced the ordered very well to get us dessert right at the end of the meal. Good selection of draft beer too.

Kid-friendliness: They got us high chair for our infant

I wanted to try this place because of the good reviews. It's an old school feel with a new school flare. The food was really good & fresh. The red beans & rice is different than the usual you'll taste in Louisiana, but it was still good. The chicken was tender & juicy. The pot pie was good with a good crispy crust, but it was a little too much juice. I feel it should have more filling & less juice. It had good flavor. The worst the dessert nachos! The compo was weird tasting & the breading needed some sugar cinnamon to give it some taste. The ice cream helped, but not much. The turtle pie was ok, but the dark chocolate was bitter. I watched all the food come out & asked others about their food & they all talked about how good their food is. This was our 1st time & we'll be back to try other options, but no desserts. Our server was very nice & the food came out hot & in a timely manner.

I came here while visiting at the suggestion of several people, but I fail to see the hype regarding this place. While the service was fantastic, I am not able to say the same about the food.

For the catfish, the filets had been small (albeit numerous) with not much of a crunch and also only had a sprinkles of seasoning on it. I hate to say this, but I actually ended up with far better catfish at a dive bar the other night. The fries were stale, as if they had been cooked half an hour prior.

As for the desserts, the apple pie is just not it. For an apple pie, the apples shouldn't be tart, firm, and crunchy. They should sweet and soft, meaning that it wasn't cooked for near the amount of time required for that. However, the chocolate crumble pie was quite tasty.

A couple of wide-screens would be a big plus.

To start, the hostess tried to plop us down in one of those more secluded booths. This is nice but the tables are way too close. Yeah no, im not listening to the group next to me choke on their food while talking about bland mid city life. Food was very good. Diet coke was fresh. Got the veggie melt it was delish. Server was nice. Food was very affordable. Parking is the worst though.

Only complaint I had the A/C was blowing directly on my table! My companion had a jacket from our vehicle. I unfortunately did not have one! I did ask my server if they could adjust the thermostat. She had the management adjust the air temperature!

The seafood pie was good the fried fish was a little over fried but all together not a bad experience. The parking leaves a little to be desired. I was blocked in by delivery trucks but the drivers were very kind and moved a little so i could get out. First time going was a lil busy but i will check it out again!

Well worth the trip to BR. The pies were delicious and the fried okra was the best I’ve ever had. I will warn - if you’re getting a warm pie to go, place the order immediately since it takes a while. We waited thirty minutes for an apple pie after our meal, so I removed a star for this
