A tast of Baton Rouge. Where the locals go. Delicious food prepared fresh with authentic Louisiana flare. Note, that definitely does not mean, hot... it means properly spiced with herbs, etc. The ceiling is covered with dollar bills upon which people have written notes. Oh yeah, GEAUX TIGERS!!!

The original location for the George's empire is certainly one of the iconic spots of the city. Their "we are different" (#1) mantra couldn't be more evident with the dive bar look with destination eatery vibes. While I can get behind the other sister locations of the George's empire, this one will still be the one for me. It was closed for a while during the pandemic, so the Southside location (#2) has been my spot until then. This place feels as nostalgic as it looks. It is undeniably oldschool, as the ceilings are adorned with dollar bills with messages and signatures scribbled across them. The wooden tables that line up the interior and the vintage looking bar gives this place a lot of character. George's is a super ideal place for a comfort food meal. Much of the food is the kind of variety that would be found at most Louisiana themed restaurants, but they really do a good job here. Their fried seafood platters have been legendary, as has their po-boys (especially the roast beef or catfish) are super tasty. Most of my Louisiana brethren is not terribly crazy about eating red beans and rice (#3) but I love the version George's has with the extra andouille sausage. Both the shrimp and crawfish etouffees are excellent and I'm a fan of their chicken + sausage gumbo. The burgers are massive in a good way, though I don't think they trump the po-boys overall. Order all of them with a side of cheese fries to complete the eventual gut bomb / food coma. I've had more food here than drink, but I do know they can serve a mean drink behind the bar, especially during the evenings. I've bar hopped in this area under the overpass before, but I've put the food first and what they have to offer at George's is right up my alley. Service is good and the parking situation is varied. On the weekends the place is swamped and sometimes spaces aren't as obvious. They accept credit cards and the staff was masked up when I last noticed. ____________ (#1) Total slogan: "We are different ... for a reason" (#2) Southside: (#3) Elementary school trauma. No joke.

The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because the food could have been seasoned a little bit more, but overall it was a great experience and I would definitely go back. The environment was fun and I enjoyed the food a great deal! I didn't drink while I was there, but I definitely want to go experience the bar aspect sometime soon.

They have great po'boys, cold beer and a muffaletta salad (off the menu but they will make it if you ask) with their famous olive salad made on the premises--best I've ever tasted. Write down your order and they will call you when it's ready. Friendly bartenders and a nice selection of Abita beers. Everything is homemade here. Under the I-10 overpass in a triangle shaped bar is the best dive and best food you will ever hope to have.

I go here often because its 'cheap n' good' and I mean that in the best way possible. The #1 thing i like here is the shrimp remoulade, hits it out of the park. I didn't give it the full 5 stars because the waiters could be much better, sometimes they are nice, sometimes they look bored. Food is fantastic tho.

Incredibly insensitive during Covid-19. Racist remarks should never be made regardless of race.
