This restaurant is a must try! The atmosphere is nostalgic with names and messages echoed from the past on tables and dollar bills. It reminds me of a place where everyone knows your name.
Once you decide which one of their many options you would like, you place your order at the counter, literally. You write your order and place it on the counter, answer a couple of quick questions, give them your name then wait. They will call you when your order is ready. Now you get to enjoy! We tried the boudin balls, sausage gumbo and their bacon cheeseburger. All were amazing! My husband said it's the best boudin he's had. The bacon burger was worth every calorie. Gumbo? What gumbo? The bowl was licked clean in no time.
Definitely stop by for a delicious and filling meal next time you are in the Baton Rouge, LA area.
This was the most depressing atmosphere and food I think I’ve ever experienced. The staff was nice at least. I had a bacon cheeseburger and the patty tasted like it wasn’t even seasoned, thankfully I had mayo and mustard on it. Some of the fries were cooked perfectly and others were soggy. My cousin got the onion rings and they were just absolutely BLAND. We had to grab some Tony’s from another table just to make the food bearable. I am not sure how/why this place has 4.4 stars because it was honestly probably one of the worst food I’ve ever had honestly. Bland, bad atmosphere and most certainly not worth almost $30 for fries, 2 drinks and a bland burger. Sorry, will not be coming back ever again.
Aint nothing much to say except just downright delicious
Very loud atmosphere but the food is worth it!
The poopoo platter was good. The entree was incorrect but turned out to probably be a healthier option and it tasted pretty good.
Good food and fun atmosphere. It definitely has the vibe of a small town dive bar (but welcoming to kids) where the food isn’t dazzling, but reliably good. Pretty sure half the patrons were regulars who are on a first name basis with the staff. Worth going.
I've never had a bad meal at George's. I used to absolutely love George's under the Perkins Road overpass due to the yesteryear mood, and food, and as it was a Baton Rouge classic. But the George's on Highland Road definitely carries the torch and maintains the excellent culinary standards of "classic" George's on Perkins Road.
My favourite item on the menu is the Club Sandwich, complete with fries. BUT the daily plate lunch specials ROCK. Today I had the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and field peas. Simply delicious, old-fashioned, down home cookin'.
The dark, pool hall sort of ambience; the always cheerful, responsive staff behind the bar where one orders the food; and the fabulous classic Rock music--today I walked into George's and heard my guy Tom Petty on the speakers!--make for the kind of restaurant to which you will return over and over. Consistency in quality, generous portions, reasonable prices, and the tastiest food around in the world of casual dining in BR, George's is THE destination.

I recently brought my family to George's Southside for lunch with friends, and we had a great time. I love the dive restaurant vibe, even with its popularity. The menu had plenty of great choices—my burger and my wife’s po'boy were both fantastic. The service was friendly and fun, which made the experience even better. We’ll definitely be back!

Great place for dinner, nightly specials. Pot Roast is very good. BLT is tasty also. Staff is professional and friendly. Welcome and inviting place conveniently located at the corner of Staring and Highland.

Pretty decent place but have noticed as the prices have soared (like everywhere else) the ingredients have become lesser quality. They used to make home style fries for example and the oyster poboys used to come piled high with fried oysters. Perhaps I just caught a few bad nites. Will try again of course but the cheeseburger was my go to sandwich. What happened
