There's a saying that if you want some good food you'll find it attached to a gas station. This was definitely all facts! I wasn't looking for anything specific to eat but this place called to me so I whipped into the parking lot and headed in! This is such a homey type of place that puts a lot of pride and joy in their food and showing off Latin culture.Los Alvarez Exxpress Latin Food is a local mom and pop spot on the corner of Gardere and Burbank next to the S&P Food Store/Chevron gas station. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect going in but what I got was a lot of warmth and comfort. This is a place for Latin locals to relax and get a bit of familiarity and good food. I dined in and ordered the Granadas Catrachas. Catrachas are traditionally known as Honduran tostadas. Los Alvarez puts their spin on it by using Granada flour to create a puff pocket and stuff it with meat, rice and cheese and serve it with encurtido (Honduran pickled vegetables). I ordered one with chicken and one with beef. The serving was huge and absolutely delicious! I was only able to eat one. That, on top of the chips and salsa and black bean dip had me full for the rest of the day! Everyone that works there is friendly and for a second you don't feel like you're in Baton Rouge. This is a magical place.

First time going there and it's right around the corner which is awesome but dangerous. Ordered 4 steak tacos and beans and rice. Everything was awesome although since the tacos are heavy I would recommend using two tortillas instead of one. Just makes it easier to eat.

May get busy some nights and have a good wait, but the food is worth it. Large portions and authentic, definitely not off a Sysco truck. The beans were some of the best I’ve ever had, and the Honduran Tacos (basically taquitos), were loved by everyone in my group. No one had any compaints, and this is a hidden gem.

Love this little authentic place! Everything is super fresh and delicious. You won't go wrong with anything here.

This was a terrible experience. They don't have much on the menu, and they don't speak English. We ordered our food, amd strictly said no beans. We also asked for chips and salsa, and they brought out what looked like beans, which looked disgusting. They brought out our food and served white rice instead of Mexican rice. My wife's food had bones in it. She ordered a Sprite, and there was something floating in the bottle. Since they don't speak English, they didn't do anything. To top it off, they charge gratuity.

The food quality is excellent. Portions are good. Honduran is their specialty and is good if you want variety on your pallete!

Visited September 2022It’s been a great place for me to visit and take family in Baton Rouge but don’t go for the service or availability of food.I was looking for beef soup, and we requested several items and unfortunately they didn’t have them. It was a bit frustrating to visit and that’s just the standard level of service.Once the food comes out , it’s delicious and fresh but good luck finding what you want off the menu. It’s a small place and it’s always busy.
