Wonderful Place Oyster's Real Good
We got denied service due to no power in the kitchen but somehow the people that went in after us got a seat and menu. Not sure what that was about.
It was pretty fishy here and not in a good way. The server we had was clearly not happy with life that day. We got a salad, burger, and a shrimp platter. The salad was decent, but the other two dishes were honestly made without love. The menu looked better online than what I saw in person. Phil's has potential with some extra customer service training and perhaps some better fried shrimp but for what's pretty much a college bar it gets the job done, just not a good choice for dinner.
On our way to FL. my wife and I did some DDD stops. Phil's was by far the best. We had the Crawfish Cheesecake, Boudin Balls, and a dozen charbroiled oysters. Each starter was excellent. It was well worth the stop. We highly recommend it.
Great food and great service
Fantastic food and I love all the LSU memorabilia.
We had just come out of a doctor's appointment and decided to have lunch in Baton Rouge. After checking what was in the area, my husband and I decided on Phil's Oyster Bar. We had never been to this location and it has been years since we went to the original location on Government Street. Oysters sounded good, so Phil's it was!
We were both highly disappointed in this location. Yes, it is near the University and we expected it to be on the crowded side for lunch. However, it was so noisy that you could not here the other person sitting right next to you talk! Way to noisy in there!
The food...we both ordered combo dinners. I got Oysters and Shrimp and my husband ordered Shrimp and Catfish. Both are served with french fries. We also ordered a soft drink each. The food was good, but nothing exceptional.
The price...my husband was not pleased with dropping $68.47 for lunch. Dinner would have been okay, but not for a lunch. That was for 2 entrees and 2 Sodas. That's a bit steep!
Service...our waitress was cordial and did a somewhat good job of keeping up with the huge crowd. My order came out wrong with Catfish and Shrimp instead of the Oysters and Shrimp. She took care of that and brought me some Oysters. I was disappointed in the Oysters. They were small and appeared to come out of a jar, rather than fresh Oysters that are plentiful around here while in season. Our visit was in April, so shouldn't have been a problem. The waitress told us not to worry about getting the mistake fixed, but our bill had a charge on it for adding to entree. This really ticked my husband off.
Sorry, Phil's I can't give you five stars! We won't be back either. There are other restaurants in the area that serve BIG and Juicy GULF OYSTERS!
My waitress was great and oysters great! The kitchen needs some work. I ordered the Louisiana Lemonade, 1/2 dozen oysters, and a shrimp poboy. I got my drink and minutes later I received my order Togo. The waitress and I were confused since I didn’t order Togo and she didn’t enter it as Togo. I left it as is and ate my oysters (which were great). I left and when I finally went to eat my poboy I bit into it to find it was oysters. Fine I love oysters, but the other half was fish! The bag literally said shrimp on it. I’m starting to feel like they gave me someone leftovers.
Great place to eat!
Friday I was watching Dinner Dives and Drive in when I saw this Crawfish Cheesecake and said I have to have it well 5 hours later guess what I was eating that Crawfish Cheesecake and it was so DELICIOUS!!!

We had an amazing time at Phil's. Fresh food, amazing service, short wait (on a Saturday night at that). You can't go wrong choosing such a jewel of a place!
The chicken and sausage gumbo was all juice and sausages with no chicken in it. The shrimp in the seafood gumbo we didn’t have much seafood in our gumbo just extra small shrimp. I paid $7.99 for the gumbo all for it to come in a small rice container. Overall, the taste was exceptional and I’m sure the other food is good!
