Had my birthday here this evening with a large table. Service was spectacular. Very quick drink service!Paella was excellent, we started with the tapas and then shared the paella. The chorizo is in many dishes but it’s truly excellent, not greasy like most.

Food was overpriced and not that tasty. Ordered the garlic shrimp, hummus, and brussel sprouts. The garlic shrimp literally had no flavor, the hummus was served with pita break hard enough to break your teeth, BUT the brussel sprouts were good!

If you've ever been out with me, chances are we've gotten some kind of Spanish influenced meal together, and if you know me then you know tapas is my favorite and is the way to my heart. So when I first heard about Solera Spanish Tapas and Bar, I was locked in. Note: If Bin 77 is the sexy mysterious cousin, Solera is the cousin who is the life of the party (and is probably hosting it, too)!If you're new to tapas, tapas are small plates, snacks or appetizers. Originally from Spain, a lot of cultures are making very tapas-style dishes that are lately considered to be "sophisticated". However, you don't have to be bourgeois (nor bougie, leave that to me lol). Just be willing to try new things and share, since most tapas are shareable plates.Solera is in the Southdowns Shopping Center on Perkins but if you aren't careful, you could miss it. Nestled in its own little corner, it's surrounded by plenty of parking and other shops. One of my favorite things about tapas bars is that the atmosphere is always lively, no matter what city you're in. There's no exception here in BR, either. The atmosphere is upbeat and the service is phenomenal. We started off with drinks. I got the sangria and bestie got the jalapeño mango margarita that was on special. For food we ordered pan con tomate (bread w/ tomatoes), croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes/fritters), gambas (sautéed shrimp with garlic sherry sauce) and patatas bravas (crispy potatoes w/ Manchego cream and brava sauce). I enjoyed everything very much but the standout for me was the croquetas de jamón. The outside was golden and crisp while the inside was creamy and pillowy. I'm warning you now though, Solera is gonna be a problem for my budget. Cannot wait to come back to try their happy hour specials.

I wanted to try some restaurants in Baton Rouge. I love wine and tapas so I tried solera. The service is amazing. We were seated within 2 minutes. No waiting. Our waitress was very nice. She answered all of our questions about the menu and gave us some recommendations. It wasn't really a lot of people. It was a Saturday night. The lighting wasn't too low but wasn't too bright either. It was perfect for a chill night out. I was trying out restaurants to see which one I would go to for my birthday. This one sadly didn't make the cut. I looked at the menu before going. Pics online. Seemed great. The wine is great. The food is subpar. The ideas of the menu is perfect. I was really excited to try. I love Spanish food. But the seasoning just wasn't there. I probably wouldn't go again but try it for yourself!

First, they are definitely NOT permanently closed as reported above! We went on Sat at 1:00, which is apparently a good time on a LSU game day because most people are already tailgating so they weren’t busy. They have a terrific bar with all sorts of specialty cocktails. Both my daughter and her bf had the blueberry mojito and loved it. They had two frozen cocktails, a frozen expresso martini and a frozen old fashioned. I had both and they were both fantastic! They have an extensive menu with tapas, paella and some main courses. The four of us split a bunch of tapas; garlic shrimp, lamb meatballs, scallops, bacon wrapped dates and pork cheeks. All were fantastic and we left full! Service was fabulous as well!!!

Solera is a place we don't visit enough. The food, drinks and wine list are excellent. The atmosphere is nice and comfortable. Service could improve a bit. We're glad they're in Baton Rouge, and we'll definitely be back!

The food and the drinks were good. We ordered a pitcher of Sangria, Patatas Bravas, Ham Croquettes and the Charcuterie. However, the prices are way too high for what you get. 44 dollars for the pitcher of Sangria and 11 dollars for Patatas Bravas was too much. I understand that Tapas are supposed to be small shared plates, but in Spain, small dishes also means small prices.
