This is not the place to go for quality or value. $16 for half a shrimp poboy and five hush puppies. The shrimp were the tiniest salad shrimp you can find. It tasted fine but was grossly underwhelming. Our waitress was pleasant but did not offer to refill my empty tea glass. The cocktail sauce had a strange vinegar taste that was not from Worcestershire sauce. The dessert placard on the table had remnants of a previous diner’s food on it. ? I left the restaurant after dinner still hungry but full of disappointment.

First visit to Covington location. Cobia was overcooked. Hubby's fish dish served with 'clumpy' grits had only salty flavor. We've had much better experiences at other locations.

One of our new favorite places. The Royal Red shrimp are amazing but honestly we haven't had anything we didn't enjoy. Even my 8 year old picky eater loved everything he's tried.

Went to half shell for 2 shrimp dinners to go. Food was average at best. Unlikely to go back. Shrimp tasted like it was frozen and the crust was not very tasty! Even my wife thought they had a poor taste.

Oysters on the half shell were excellent. The fried oysters were just warm and probably could have been better if cooked in fresh oil. Otherwise, all of our other plates were great. Would definitely recommend!

I'm so happy that my sis suggested this place for our date because it was phenomenal!

From the time I entered the establishment, I was met with cordial smiles and timely attention.

Food: I can't speak enough on the preparation of the dishes. I ordered the sampler platter which consisted of Mahi Mahi, shrimp, boudain balls, a crab cake & fries. I subbed the fries for the house salad (the goat cheese & vinegarette was yummy), seafood Gumbo, Jalapeño hushpuppies & added charbroiled oysters to my sampler. Everything was astounding.

My sis ordered Redfish Orleans: Blackened redfish topped with Gulf shrimp sautéed in our original Orleans sauce. Topped with lump crabmeat and Parmesan cheese. She chose the Sweet Potato Creme Brulee with Honey Butter & Cajun Boiled Mashed Potatoes as her sides. Warning: the Orleans sauce is an oily based sauce. That Sweet Potato concoction is something special.

Mondays are Margarita Mondays, so the cocktail is only $6! You can get fancy with premium liquor for $8. Moreover, they were pretty good. Flavors can be added for 50 cents.

Verdict: I will be back sooner than later.

Have eaten at Half Shell several times in the past year and our waiters are always friendly and helpful. Our food always comes out in a timely manner and prepared as we requested. Will be visiting them again soon!!!

Driving from Houston to Orlando, stopped for an early dinner. Initially, we were going to stop at New Orleans French Quarter for Cafe Du Monde, but found out they had other locations. Decided on Covington and found this restaurant. Staff were friendly and food was delicious.
