The Sonny’s BBQ in Gonzales is one of the new design restaurant for Sonny’s. They have very good barbecue but also serve alcohol and have a drive through. My burned ends were tasty and my wife enjoyed a pulled pork sandwich. Our server was friendly and attentive and the employees were dressed for Halloween. A fun meal.

Sonny’s doesn’t disappoint. We aren’t spoiled for choice when it comes to BBQ in this part of the world, so when they built a Sonny’s within shouting distance of home, I knew it would be such a trip down memory lane back to growing up in central Florida and eating Sonny’s all the time with my best friend. The corn fritters with powdered sugar? The same as always. 🙂

I met a young man at Sonny’s Barbecue in Gonzales,La. His name is Nathanael Loupe and he took my order in the drive thru lane. He was so pleasant and kind; it was a breath of fresh air. In a world so chaotic right now, this young man exemplified; mastered what it should look like to be in customer service. I wish there were more like you Nathanael. I decided to try Sonny's because the place I wash my car at is near Sonny's and I can smell the smoked meat from where I'm at at it smells good. I ordered a whole smoked chicken and it was not good. It was very dry, even the dark meat, and it was not seasoned at all, the meat or the skin. I tried to use the BBQ to see if it would make it better but it didn't. Needless to say, I'll just enjoy the smell of the smoked meat but will not be returning.
We have been going to Sonny’s on Florida Blvd. for over 40 years. NEVER a bad meal.After eating at the one in Gonzales, we will not go back to the Gonzales restaurant. The waiter was inexperienced. They couldn’t find Sweet n Low. The paper towels were almost empty. The ribs were fatty and tough they were out of broccoli. The manager at the Florida restaurant, Miss Gwen, is wonderful. She came to our table to visit. The food was exceptional and we will definitely go back.

Server was very unfocused on us. We had to ask for straws, silverware and check. People next to us got everything without asking including go cups for their drinks. First time we were not offered. Also BBQ sauce and ketchup not on the table. We found it on neighboring table. Overall the restaurant was not in the usual state. Did not see a manager. We love sonnys but this visit was not consistent.

Ms. Cathy was my waitress and she was outstanding. She was very attentive, focused on my needs and kept me without wanting to.
