I’ve been coming here for years. Best sushi in New Orleans. Family owned and family friendly. 10/10

To the female host/server: thanks for speaking to me as if I were dumb when I tried to order something that I didn’t know was unavailable. Maybe if you specified that in the first place, you could have saved your rudeness. The marker stain on the menu isn’t helping you there🤷🏻‍♀️

And to guarantee that I don’t return, you actually THREW the pen while returning my card to me. What did I do to you? lol Shame on you for not treating all guests with kindness. Don’t work a service job if you can’t be bothered to treat everyone fairly.

I literally drive past about 6 other sushi restaurants to come here almost weekly! It is fresh and delicious and you are missing out if you haven't been. Try the Hana special roll... you can thank me later ;)

Dropped by with some friends around 5:30 for dinner, and overall it was a mixed bag. We tried a few sushi rolls that were just okay — a little heavy on the rice (my friend pointed that out right away). The panko chicken dinner, though, was a winner — super tasty, and the chicken quality was spot-on. The rice bowl had good flavor but could’ve used a little more kick. Two of us even asked for extra spice, but honestly, it didn’t seem like any was added.
The seaweed salad, on the other hand, was fresh and really good — no complaints there.
Now, here’s where things went downhill: the wine. We asked for a wine list, but our server just mentioned they only had “house wine.” We probably should’ve pressed for more info, but the place was getting busier, so we just went with it. What came out was the tiniest pour — maybe 3 ounces, in the smallest glass ever. It looked cute, at least? We laughed it off and figured, hey, it’s happy hour, let’s just get another round.
Big mistake. When we asked how much the wine was, she said $8 or $9 per glass! We were shocked — definitely not worth it for that tiny pour.
So, overall: the food was good, and we’d probably come back for a few dishes, but the wine situation was such a letdown it kind of killed the vibe. We had to buy 2 glasses to get a glass of wine!
My advice: you have been in NOLA for a while now you need to have wine glasses that suit a proper dinner and create a wine list. PSA the Wine wont go bad …

We ate here again and it still has excellent quality and very good prices. Atmosphere was great. Wasn't crouded or loud making it easy to have a conversation. Plenty of tables and booths for seating. Had fried rice bowl which did have a lot of fried egg in it, very tasty. also had the Pork Tonkotsu bowl for $14 and it was delicious. this place is a hidden gem in old Gretna and close to Westbank Expy. Highly recommend.

Cafe Zen is delightful and excellent! I love the chirashi bowl, so artful and delicious! My wife loves the tempura -- fluffy, light, and exquisite. Cafe Zen is a wonderful place!

DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE EVER!!! I have been to this place a few times and the female cashier was ALWAYS RUDE!!! Since the first time I came to this place, the cashier always gave me an unwelcome and unpleasant look. After another visit today, I am done and will never ever go back to that place again.

We have been coming to Cafe Zen for almost 20 years and even though we no longer live in the area we eat here when we are in town. He and his friendly staff have always served delicious food with a smile. This location is a bit secluded but it is a nice spot for date nights in a calm atmosphere. See you next time Hiro!

This is the only sushi place I know that doesn't have both red and green label soy sauce on every table. I think they only have one bottle of green label soy sauce for the whole restaurant. It's upon request and and they will take it back at anytime.
