My dining companion's mojito was pretty good. I ordered a top-shelf margarita, but it tasted as sickly sweet as what you'd expect from a bar catering to college kids on spring break. Still, it was better than the food.

I keep getting the same menu item every time, but it's just so fresh! The quality here is superior to many Mexican restaurants and it justifies the higher prices (on some things). The cocktails are amazing and reasonably priced. I like having a location on the West Bank although Lakeview rocks with their beautiful outdoor/patio seating. For me, having a gluten free menu and knowledgeable staff makes all the difference, and I will continue to choose Gato Negro over any other Mexican restaurant!

The food is fine. You won't likely leave upset, but you won't leave with your mind blown either. Why won't I return? This establishment wants to charge $1 or MORE just to get lettuce and tomato on tacos. You can't nickel and dime your customers and expect to build any loyalty. That just isn't how business works. Grandpa used to say, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. You really want to rethink the way you do business.

We are from Texas and feel that we can say pretty confidently that we know and love Mexican food. We didn't expect that a local friend would suggest this place when we came and were down in Gretna for work but we did and man are we happy that we took their advice! The chips were fresh and the salsa was delicious. We ordered the queso that was the special and it was phenomenal. I got the stuffed avocado as my meal and ate it all, literally wiped my plate clean with tortillas it was so good...I've never done that before in a restaurant. My husband ordered the burrito and said it was great. For dessert we shared a tres leches and that was the only thing we felt could have been better. Overall the meal was delicious and beautifully plated, the restaurant was clean and had a great atmosphere, and the staff was wonderful and welcoming.

Nice cozy spot to have delicious food. This was one of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to in New Orleans. The food was great, nice portions and the drinks were good. ?

HORRIBLE is an understatement!!! Too many great mexican restaurants on the westbank. This place needs to close down and let someone with business management skills open a decent place for dining! WOULDNT SEND MY WORST ENEMY

Worst place to eat in Gretna. Waitress stopped in the middle of our order to take drink orders from table behind us . Sat for an hour and a half waiting on our meal . Would never spend a dime in this chain ever again !!
