Went for barbacoa on a Sunday but it was unavailable. It may not be offered every weekend or on Sundays. Opted for a Honduran breakfast platter with steak and partner got chilaquiles verde with skirt steak. The food was very good and our server was very pleasant.
I've been following El Hidalguense Mexican Restaurant for a while now. And decided today I wasn't going to Lafayette again without trying it. I had the Enchilada Mixta con Cecina and my wife had the Birria Tacos. Amazing food! I have a hard time describing how delicious our meals were. But, we're definitely going back! The owner was so friendly, checking on us making sure we were enjoying our food. Our server was very helpful picking out our food since it was our first visit. This is definitely a hidden gem with authentic, fresh Mexican food.
The food and drinks were tasty AF and the service was friendly.
Nothing they cook is good,
They need to try their own cuisine and rethink if it tastes good, of 3 different dishes, not one tasted good

The food was DELICIOUS! All six of us who ate lunch were extremely satisfied with our dishes (my Fajita steak quesadilla was amazing), and the sopapillas were the best ever. Definitely will be making a return trip soon.

tried the shrimp meatball soup (albondigas de camarones) that is so good and so unique. We had a big table and one of our guest had a b'day. Owner gave us a big tray of tres leches cake for free. Food is authentic. I say don't order the beef because they are quite overcooked (authentic Mexican style) but their seafood is on point.
