6 months later (1 year later now. And we are still talking about this place..) Im still talking about how awful the Shrimp-Po-Boy was here. Boiled Shrimp on a bun. No French fries, just bad PoBoys and chips....how is this place famous?! How xan anyone in Louisiana say this places makes a good PoBoy...let's pretend they are good....they serve bagged chips? Is this a food truck? No, it's a restaurant...where are the fries, fried potatoes, fried pickles, onion rings....this place is total crap !

I heard this place was really good. Pulled up was told if I want a to go order I had to go to the bar, stood there 10 minutes and even asked for a menu 5 times and nothing. The person that told me to go to the bar even came over and still nothing. I went to the other side of the bar to see if maybe I could attract someone’s attention still nothing at the 16th minute I just left. Service is terrible and to be completely ignored is crazy not to mention everyone was White and here I am a black lady trying to by food!!!! Seriously I will be contacting a lawyer and the BBB because I have it all on video time stamped and before you ask yes I made eye contact with 4 different workers and on the video you hear me saying excuse me 5 times and asking for a menu 3 times!! Just sad that we treat people this way!!!!

Been coming to Darrell’s for over 20 years. Shrimp PoBoy now has less shrimp (use to be loaded with shrimp that would fall out) with excessive mayo. Roll was good, but that’s about it. Very disappointing. Not worth making the extra effort (I drove from out of town) for this once exceptional sandwich (why pay more for less).

Was ordering PoBoy to go and told to order it at the bar. The person who took the order was RUDE, pushy and she had an attitude. That equated to a big fat ZERO of a tip.

Don’t waste your time ordering a Shrimp PoBoy from Darrell’s…they’ve lost the recipe.

We were dealing with a flat tire on a rental for half a day and finally got back on the road and the lady at the car rental recommended Darrell’s and I’m glad she did. The special was super and like any amazing sandwich the bread, sauce and tender meats came together for a mouth orgy.

Remains consistent in flavor and test but looks like beginnings of skimping on amount of protein on the poboys.

After a long day, my companions and I sought out a Louisiana-style sandwich, the kind with bold flavor and proper craftsmanship. We arrived close to 10 p.m. and were immediately struck by the crowd. The parking lot was surprisingly full for that late hour—a testament, perhaps, to the reputation of the place.

Inside, the atmosphere leaned more toward bar than sandwich shop. Live music filled the room, and the guitarist possessed undeniable talent both vocally and instrumentally. Unfortunately, the volume was overwhelming, reducing what could have been a memorable performance to background noise too loud to appreciate.

Because of this, we asked our waitress if we could switch to a take-out order. Her response was less than gracious, pointing us curtly toward the bar just a few feet behind us. With a little coaxing she did process the order, but her demeanor made it clear we were an inconvenience.

Then came the redemption: the sandwich. It was, in a word, exceptional. The shrimp were buttery, tender, and cooked with precision. The bread was fresh, perfectly toasted, and substantial enough to hold the generous filling without overpowering it. Every bite was balanced, rich, and deeply satisfying—the kind of sandwich that justifies the establishment’s loyal following.

In the end, the food far outshone the atmosphere. For those who value ambiance, be prepared for loud music and bar energy. But for the sandwich alone, it’s worth a call-in order. I would return for that sandwich any day—just not for the setting.

The surf and turf is probably the best that they have and the beer is reasonably priced
