I don't know what happened to this place? They used to have the best food around as far as Asian cuisine goes, I got some fried rice it was terrible didn't see one bean sprout and all the fixings on top nothing but rice at the bottom, and the rice wasn't very good at all, egg rolls I could probably make better myself at home the place went downhill big time I will never eat there again the food is terrible. I got chop suey and I never seen chop suey come in a brown sauce and it was awful Don't recommend anyone eating that unless they like bad food!

Cathay Imperial has been 1 of my favorite Chinese restaurants for DECADES for both its lovely environment & its great food. I have lived out of state for about the last 4 years & hadn't been back there until recently. On my recent visit-I was very disappointed in just how much it has changed. Firstly, I realize that most everywhere: portions have become smaller while the prices have gone up & this has happened at Cathay Imperial. But my favorite lunch special which is now priced at $11.50 was the size of a child's meal & the food was overcooked, bland & greasy. I had sweet & sour shrimp which did not come w/the customary savory vegetables like sliced onion, carrots or bell peppers-it was just shrimp & sauce. The sauce portion was placed underneath the shrimp & was so skimpy that it was not enough to cover the shrimp. When I asked for more sauce, the waitress was rude & looked offended but eventually brought me some. My waitress continued w/her bad attitude & she was neither personable nor helpful & ignored me for most of my lunch. The majority of my fried shrimp were as hard as a rock & inedible. So I don't know what happened to this once great restaurant but it was a terrible dining experience & I will not be returning.

It was my first time going there and the waitress was very rude. I asked for a menu and she just stared at me. She was not helpful at all. I ordered Mandarin chicken and the sauce was all over the plate and the waitress spilled it all over the table when she brought it. It did not even taste good.

We love this little “Hidden Gem” in Metairie that is our “Go To” place when we are in the mood for Chinese food. We, along with our friends, always have a nice time when we go for Dinner…The staff has always been very friendly & accommodating, to the point where they know our names when we walk in the door, even if we haven’t been there in a while. Some of our favorites are the Special Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, Egg Rolls, & Egg Drop Soup.

This used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant. I don't know why the changed the way they do the fried rice. ?? But the wait staff is pretty good. Now the food is average to food court Chinese food.

A long time ago this place was good . I got take out bc it is so close to my work got sweet n sour chicken , not sure what kind of fried rice that was but it was awful, the egg roll had a lot of mustard in it . I don’t know what happened to this place but I was very disappointed and will not be returning . $13.00 lunch plate of nastiness!

Met today for a late lunch and I ask the waitress about the sesame chicken and asked her if it was the same type of chicken as the general chicken and she said yes, so I asked again because I felt like she wasn’t listening to me. She was just answering and she said yes again so I ordered it and when I got it, it was not the same so I tried to explain to her, and she raised her voice at me, which was very unprofessional, she didn’t offer me to order something else or to offer me any sauce to go on the chicken it was very dry crusted with sesame seeds will not return
