I had an unexpectedly authentic Italian dining experience at Adolfo’s on Frenchmen. I honestly didn’t even know this place existed and stumbled upon it by accident.

It’s a small restaurant with limited seating, and you’ll need to climb a narrow staircase to get inside. Still, it’s absolutely worth the visit—especially if you’re planning a romantic night out and want to impress.

I loved the Pasta with Italian Sausage, and the Chicken Parmigiana was perfect.

The food was great, I highly recommend the chicken Maxine the sauce is absolutely delicious and I used my side pasta to just get plane noodles that I could eat with the chicken and its sauce as it’s a very saucy dish (I highly recommend doing that). One of my favorite meals while I was there. The service is a little slow as it seems it’s only 2 servers or so for the restaurant so you do have to wait a bit if you need something but absolutely recommend going. We went pretty early like 5-6 on a Saturday and were sat right away (we had 7 people)

Why is this place so popular?

A giant pile of noodles, no sauce and 3 pieces of bread? That will be $60 dollars…

As some one who lives in New Orleans I can’t believe I fell for this tourist trap…avoid at all cost.

The food was disappointing and service was meh. Our salad came to the table when we were halfway through our entrees. The wait staff didn't seem to be too interested in taking care of our table and forgot the second round of glasses of wine. The place is really cute though and the location couldn't be better. Not worth the expense for the food though.

The place had a lot of promise. It’s small, intimate, and cozy — a true hole in the wall that we were excited to try. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations. We sat for about 10 minutes before getting menus or water, and were told we had to order all of our food at once, so we couldn’t even start with an appetizer before deciding on our entrees.

When the food arrived, it just wasn’t good. The pasta was overcooked, the sauce was thin and flavorless, the salad tasted like it came straight from a grocery store bag, and the bread was stale, at least a day or two old. For the prices they charge, it’s just not worth it. Disappointing overall, and we wouldn’t go back.

A Hidden Gem on Frenchmen Street

Dining at Adolfo’s was an absolute delight. Tucked above a small bar on lively Frenchmen Street, this unassuming spot captures the true spirit of New Orleans — simple, intimate, and effortlessly charming. The cozy, hidden setting makes the experience feel like you’ve discovered a local secret.

Each dish was beautifully prepared, rich in flavor, and a perfect blend of Creole and Italian influences. The food feels both comforting and refined.

Our server, Lily, was exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Her thoughtful service added a personal touch that made the evening unforgettable.

Adolfo’s is the kind of place that reminds you why New Orleans dining is so special: unpretentious, soulful, and full of heart. Highly recommended.

Food was bland, service was awful. Confusing menu that the server seemed annoyed to explain. Don't waste your time or money when there are so many other options.

Literally in shock by all these good reviews. These sauces are all watered down with undercooked garlic, like literally the only flavor this food has is heavy garlic. My steak was well overcooked and the marinara is just salted crushed tomatoes. Service is kind but by far the worst food I’ve had in New Orleans
