Been there twice already. Great food, most ethical, environmentally friendly place I have been in New Orleans thus far.

Great atmosphere and food in NOLA. We got the Pumpkin Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich and it was freaking amazing. Buttery, flaky, biscuit I am still drooling over!

Loved having an all vegan place so close to the hotel. Great options and absolutely delicious

We stayed at a hotel right near here and didn't even realize this place was vegan until stepping in for a quick bite! It doesn't make things super obvious just walking by, but they have a great selection of sweet or savory vegan breakfast options. I had the biscuit sandwich and some donuts, all delicious.

“Breads On Oak” definitely lives up to German bread standards! They offer a wide variety of dishes — from hearty burgers and sandwiches to delicious sweet treats. Absolutely amazing! 🌱

Friendly staff with many delicious options. I really enjoyed the raisin cinnamon roll.

Breads on Oak topped my list of “must visit” places as I was planning my trip to New Orleans, a city that doesn’t boast a great number of all-vegan restaurants. They are open limited hours (8am-2pm, and I was able to make it in a little after 1pm, when they still had an ample selection of sweet baked goods, although the racks of fresh bread were fairly empty. The fridge was stocked with two flavors of local kombucha (Big Easy Kombucha); not as wide of a selection as the other location. I appreciated that they had an allergen sheet available, which allowed me to steer clear of items containing coconut oil. (A number of their baked goods are coconut-free, though they do contain vegan butter. No ultra healthy options.) I got the Seed & Spice Oatmeal Raisin Cookie that was delicious and fresh. I also got the peach bourbon tea biscuit, an item I found more puzzling. It was much more chewy and firm than I expected, although to be fair, I’m not entirely certain what a tea biscuit is. I think it is essentially a scone. But the tea biscuit wasn’t crumbly like a typical scone, which you can gently fork apart into pieces. This thing had too much structural integrity for just a fork, and would’ve required a fork and knife if you really wanted to divide it into bite-sized pieces. My first thought was that it was stale, but I had the opportunity to try the tea biscuits at the original location uptown the following day; they were of similar texture. I had a consultation with the server who also tasted one of the free samples, and she assured me that that is how they’re intended to taste. So I truly do not think they were stale. I think they were just a texture I did not expect or desire. Would make a hearty snack for the right person, but I’d rather save that brick of calories for something else. There were many other delicious-looking and -sounding items that I did not have the chance to try, such as the vegetable sprouted tofu quiche and the live food sandwich. One final shout-out: they had a laminated sheet with a list of other vegan and vegan-friendly spots in New Orleans, which was a huge boon and contained many awesome-sounding spots that had not come up on my prior searches. This was a true kindness for the itinerant vegan in a city whose culinary reputation is very meat- and butter-centric. What a nice gesture in support of vegan-friendly businesses. I discovered Lamara by way of this list, now one of my favorite spots.

We had two different breakfast options and, while both were a little dry, both were very tasty.

Probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever eaten and I’m a super fussy person (basically only drink huel for lunch and breakfast as eating a chore). Had the mighty melt and it was so good. Got it take away and was still so hot an hour later when we arrived at our destination.

Walked over here from the Garden District for a late breakfast. The level of “don’t give a [censored]” from the staff was serious 😅 Despite that, we ordered: - Peach bourbon scone (4) - Pumpkin scone (3.5-4—the biscuit is SO GOOD, and the sausage is pretty tasty, but the tofu scramble is lack luster) - Egg’o vegan (2.5-3—compared to the pumpkin biscuit the biscuit was kind of flavorless, as was the scramble. The “ham” has some flavor but it was just okay) - Cheese grits (2—very runny, had some flavor but wouldn’t really recommend) We’re not sad with the experience but it wasn’t quite as epic as we hoped! If you’re in the neighborhood, it is such a treat to have an all vegan spot, so would recommend coming to try. We didn’t get anything on their bread which, looking at other reviews, seems like a good way to go. Updated from previous review on 2025-04-03

Food is excellent and hearty. Wish I could’ve tried everything. Brought non vegan fam here and they loved it.

I’m not into sweets, but I really enjoyed lunch options! The soup and bread were amazing.

Went here months ago now but trying to catch up on some reviews. Stopped by this bakery every day when I was in New Orleans. Everything I ordered was delicious. And everything I didn’t order looked delicious. Even enjoyed the coffee. Every employee I encountered was a pleasant person. Absolutely recommend. Can’t wait for my next trip to the Crescent City.
