Commander's Palace produces excellent, inventive food paired with service that you don't get any more. I had the chicken confit which was delicious, fall apart tender, and crispy. It was served on top of a mixture of brussel sprouts and beats. I'm not a fan of brussel sprouts but these were good.

Of all the restaurants I've visited, the Commander's Palace has to be one of the best, being excellent in food, service, and atmosphere. The gumbo was great and the bread pudding desert was excellent. The almond-coated fish entree was OK, but a but bland for my taste.

It’s been over thirty years since my husband and I ate here. It was one of our most favorable and best dining experiences. We were unsure that it would be anywhere as close as our memory. I am happy to say the level of service, hospitality and food quality was outstanding. Watching the precision of the service, with every entree at each table being served in unison, the friendliness of each person and professionalism is a treat. Then when you add what you came for, delicious food, it is a great dining experience. If you want fine dining without any pretense, this is the place to go!

Commanders Palace was good, but it doesn’t compare with the variety and tastefully compared menu at Antoine’s. It was our first time at both restaurants this trip, and we much preferred Antoine’s, no comparison. Antoine’s was more pricey, but you get what you pay for.

My husband and I were visiting New Orleans from Virginia. I took my husband to lunch for his birthday on November 12th. Our reservations were for 11:30 we arrived around 11:15 and we were first to arrive. So at 11:30 we were taken to our seats. We were seated at a table with balloons as there were other tables that had balloons. Service was impeccable and the food was outstanding but as my husband and I looked around the room we both noticed that as two Afro Americans we were seated or placed in the back in the corner while the rest of the room began to fill up with Caucasians, some regulars and some visiting tourists . This was our second time in New Orleans and second time at Commander’s Palace. This experience made us very uncomfortable and showed us that somethings just won’t change.

Our and our friends first time at Commander's Palace! Service was amazing... a coordinated team effort lead by our waiter. Food was also amazing with all 8 of us more than happy with every course leading to deserts that just blew us away. Finally, a manager (one of the family) , who had been making sure we were enjoying our meal, invited us to see the open kitchen and wine cellar, topping off an amazing evening!

Went just last week. Hadn't been in years. Heard they got a Michelin star. I have to question that a little having dined at Mich star restaurants. They walk you thru the kitchen to the bar if you are early. Could be cool. But I'm not sure this is a wow you kitchen. Then the bar and the most UN-Michelin thing I've seen. Two of the guys ordered bourbon neat. I think it was Blantons so a good one. Both glasses were filthy. Disgustingly dirty. They pointed it out and the bartender simply poured the bourbon from the dirty glasses to two cleaner ones. Not new pours. NOT Michelin. He tried to wipe the rim of my dirty wine glass with a bar rag as is in "a rag that was used to wipe the bar". I asked for a new glass. Once in the dining room, the food is good. The team wait staff arrangement not as much. Haphazard and disorganized. Gumbo had good flavor but was really just a brown roux gravy w nothing in it. The boudin stuffed quail was good. Maybe the ratio was too boudin forward. And the dessert soufflé was a great take on a bread pudding that was made light w a nice layer of meringue. They stress "jackets recommended". Go all or nothing. It wasn't the norm and the plastic perma inflated birthday "balloons" were a little Chucky Cheesy for me. All in all....good. But Michelin? Not at all compared to others.

A real experience if you want to get involved with new flavor combinations as a European. The Shrimp & Tasso Henican (said to be a signature dish unchanged on the menu for 25 years) and the turtle soup are simply a sensation! At the main courses, opinions are divided, I personally just didn't understand the Rémoulade Texas Redfish (perhaps there was even a little too much grapefruit on the plate). My wife’s fillet steak shone through a sensationally good varnish, but was a bit beyond medium-rare, and the side dish was unidentifiable. Finally, a great, homemade vanilla ice cream on a Florentine also homemade. The service was very friendly and effortful, but not flawless (my hatchet was forgotten). The restaurant itself excels for once by real coziness and taste - the FIRST restaurant in 10 days where it was NOT extremely loud and you could talk wonderfully! The other extreme can be found in the Gallatoire, where normal entertainment is simply impossible. Overall, however, an experience that is absolutely worth the high price!

This is worth the extra effort to go. It was perfection from beginning to end. I couldn’t decide on the soup so our waiter brought me a trio of samples of the three on the menu. So thoughtful. We were there for jazz brunch on Sunday. Great value for the price. Be sure to walk the neighborhood afterwards. So gorgeous.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday and the experience was phenomenal. We have dined at Commander’s once before but we brought our two teenaged kids with us this time. They enjoyed the experience as much as we did! I called ahead to confirm this was a birthday celebration, so they made note of my husband’s name. When we arrived the host immediately wished him a happy birthday by name. Each person that interacted with our table wished him a happy birthday. We had impeccable service throughout the evening. The service staff are a well-oiled machine! We had an incredible meal and it was a special way to celebrate!

First time to New Orleans, and chef mentor and foodie Sensei insisted i go to Commander's Palace...he was not wrong, great ambiance, amazing service, although in New Orleans...southern hospitality is alive and well!. My server Joe from Honduras with his team Travis and Gwen, served me and treated me like a southern gentleman. Had the turtle soup and gumbo, perfect flavors and so rich. Had a braised short rib Appetizer on a fried pork skin with cream/sauce...perfect bite to prepare my pallet for my main. Pecan Crusted Fish with crab and finished with their infamous bread pudding soufflé. I was on cloud 9. food was amazing, wanted to lick my plate. I'll Always make time to visit Commanders Palace when i visit Louisiana in the future. hats off to the chef. Exquisite experience.

Grand dame of New Orleans restaurants. Services a 5+. Food is a solid 4. Pretty and elegant and reasonably priced for an amazing experience.

We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the place did not meet the hype. Every dish I ordered was has meh (soup de jour, cauliflower starters, squash fritters). Mind you, every other place we ate in NOLA was wonderful. The food at Commander’s Palace just was not gourmet level. We won’t be going back in the future and I cannot recommend this restaurant. That’s too bad because we were really looking forward to this meal.

I’ve visited Commanders on and off since 1979. It has its ups and down. And is definitely on a down now. While the food was fine (not exceptional) the service was terrible. Lots of staff standing around doing nothing. Our waiter was busy and took ages to get us a menu and we waited longer to order. He kept telling us to order dessert now or we’d have to wait 20 minutes if we ordered it after the main course as is usual in a good restaurant. But once we ordered the food came in a rush. Our first course plates were removed at the exact same time the main course arrived. Waiter tried to remove dessert before we’d even finished. Then asked if we wanted anything else and presented the bill. Poor experience.

I had high expectations from friend’s recommendations. Food was amazing, but for the money, the service really ruined the experience. Lots of staff standing around ready to remove your plate before you’ve swallowed the last bite, but them you are left waiting while all those people figure out that you’ve been waiting far too long for your next course. This was amateur hour.
