Crossing Reviews
This place is definitely one to avoid if you are looking for a nice drink in Le Vieux Carré. I would truly leave a rating of 0 if I could; it is well earned. A 1 will do. I would really recommend checking out Oz or Lafitte in Exile instead - both have top tier staff who are kind, prompt, and fun to talk to.
I have been coming to Crossing for three years now. My experience in 2022 was so good that it prompted me to seek out Crossing whenever I could, sit down, and have a drink.
Fast forward to today - 2024 - the experience could not have been worse. My partner and I entered the bar during a downpour. There must have only been 4 customers in the bar besides us (so 6 total). Looked like a slow day for this business.
I approached the bar to give the bartender our order (based on how 100% of bars operate and how this particular bar has operated in the past). He gruffly told me to sit down and then he would take the order.
Okay - I thought - no big deal. We can't get bar service at this bar but we will sit. Then came the shenanigans. We waited for approximately 20 minutes for the bartender to take our order. We watched as the bartender made conversation with the other four patrons and mixed two drinks for them extremely slowly. No other customers entered during this 20 minutes. Now, I noticed the other customers were placing their orders directly at the bar with the same bartender who told us to sit down.
Okay - I thought - now this is getting odd. It seemed like my partner and I had missed invitations to a very exclusive club. We watched the bartender gruffly dote on the every need of the other patrons offering very utilitarian barside service. Meanwhile we were treated like a segregated customer segment.
After the slowest (and what I can only imagine to be most thorough) pour of two drinks I have ever seen, it was finally our turn. Yay!
My partner placed his order. The bartender did not ask his choice of spirit, nor did he acknowledge the order. Then he turned to me and didn't say anything, just stared. I put in my order for a mint julep (staple New Orleans cocktail). The surly, old bartender very rudely told me "We don't serve that here" AND WALKED AWAY FROM US. He did not explain (something as simple as "Sorry, we don't have fresh mint today"), he did not offer an alternative, and he did not even take my order. We had to get up and walk out after wasting nearly a half hour of our lives on this establishment.
I actually feel bad for this bartender. He clearly is living in misery and seemed certainly miserable to be working here. It is so unfortunate that this man's pain has to affect his customers. I hope he can find something that speaks to him and maybe free up a spot for a server who enjoys it. Praying for you man.
What I find the oddest of all through this is how Crossing can possibly market itself as an inclusive bar. The experience I had there was nothing short of New Orlean's own version of the Stanford Prison Experiment. One of the least inclusive, most cliquey feeling places I have been in a while.
My partner and I went to Oz shortly after and had a great experience. The cute bartender took our order and made conversation right when we walked in. Would really recommend any other place in NOLA over Crossing.

Crossing is a welcoming bar in the French Quarter, known for its hot and fresh food, great drinks, and a nice mix of locals and visitors. The staff can be friendly and inclusive, often creating a refuge from the crowds. Customers have enjoyed the Butter Burger with fries, along with drinks like beer and the famous bloody Mary, all at reasonable prices. While the service can be attentive most nights, some visitors have noted that being assertive when ordering can improve the experience. Open almost all the time, Crossing remains a great spot to relax and have a good time.
