This was one of my favorite locations to get daiquiris in NOLA. Not because the drinks were good (sweet is an understatement), but because the actual spot was something out of a movie. It wasn't in the most obvious location (literally in a back road) and was totally ratchet in more ways than one. There was truly never a dull moment at Daiquiri Chef. Service was hot and cold. Some days the folks behind the counter were friendly and welcoming, other days it was a different set of folks who seemed confused that I would be here. The latter wasn't as warm, and samples weren't offered but I would end up getting something anyway. The interior of the place was bare bones: a slot machine randomly in the corner, a bit of a drab ambiance that felt like someone's house, and a number of daiquiri machines spinning in the background. Speaking of the daiquiris, they were potent and sweeter than they were boozy. I wasn't sold on them initially, but the price made it easy to consider this location over the pricier ones in the French Quarter. When in doubt, the purple rain was the one to get. They've since closed. While I'm sad to know I won't be able to enjoy the scene anymore, I know there's a hidden gem of a daiquiri spot lurking somewhere in the Big Easy.
