3/1 I will start with the king’s cake was amazing. But very disappointed upon discovering not 1 of my 3 purchased cakes had the baby figurine once I opened the cakes 5 hours later and had waited 1.5 hours in line. The intent was a social media post hyping up the kings cake and the mini game amongst my company both thwarted by this lack of product. You want yummy cake it’s there. But even as the box had advertised that the baby would be on top of the cake alas it was not.

One of the few things I can imagine being happy to stand in line, in the cold, is the cream cheese king cake from Dong Phuong. Gets the highest marks from my co-workers as well. It is a crowd pleaser and was gone before lunch.

I finally got my hands on a coconut king cake from Dong Phuong Bakery, and let me tell you—this isn’t just a king cake, it’s a revelation. From the first bite, I knew this was something special. The brioche dough is impossibly soft and buttery, with just the right amount of sweetness. But the real game-changer? That coconut filling. It’s rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced, with a depth of flavor that puts every other king cake I’ve ever tried to shame.
The icing is smooth and luscious, complementing the delicate coconut flakes that add just the right amount of texture. Unlike the overly sugary, dense versions you find elsewhere, this one is light, airy, and almost dangerously easy to devour. Honestly, I don’t think I can ever go back to any other king cake after this. Dong Phuong has set the gold standard, and nothing else even comes close.

Best place to get king cakes during Mardi Gras season. I showed up at 7 AM on a Friday morning with only a couple people in line. I was able to get my king cakes and pay for them around 8:11 AM. One cake is huge and all the flavors have their unique taste, I don’t really have one that stands out, but you could say strawberry is good since it’s not too creamy compared to the others. I would come back!

Totally worth the drive here. The banh mi is cheap compared to every other place that sells them for like 2x more. Their pastries are also delicious. I like to eat their banh bao (the bbq is my fav) and pate chaud. They also sell their bread for cheap so definitely stock up on those as they are excellent for other dishes if you're a home cook. There's a restaurant connected to the bakery that have great food too if you want to make the trip worth it. It can get pretty packed on weekends though
Edit: they increased the prices on everything

I’ve never really liked king cake but… WOW! This is seriously THE best we’ve ever had! My husband has been trying to get one for a couple of weeks now, but they’re so good that they sell out before he could get his hands on one. Now we totally get why! We got one cream cheese and one almond creme. They’re both AMAZING!

I tried cream cheese king cake and a slice of the praline one. I give them both a 7.5/10. The icing is really good. Almost like a whipped cream. Now what I didn't like is the way the filling is sprinkled throughout. Both cakes lacked filling. At first I thought it was just the praline because I only had an individual slice. But nope, I had the whole cream cheese cake and it's just not enough filling inside. Great flavor though.

I have tried many different King Cakes from different places even the one that a lot would swear to be the best of the best… I still have to go back to Dong Phuong. To me and my family, this is hands down the best so far. From packaging to taste and flavors. We just love them so very much.
