Ernest Cafe delivered one of the most disappointing dining experiences I have encountered in a long time. From the moment I arrived, the service was remarkably poor. The staff’s demeanor was consistently dismissive and unnecessarily rude. Simple questions were met with visible irritation, negative responses, and an overall attitude that made it clear my presence was viewed as an inconvenience. Rather than feeling welcomed as a paying customer, I felt as though I was being tolerated. I felt like i was treated like a toddler who didn't get his way and the parents couldn't take it anymore so they kicked the toddler out of the house, YES that is how rude they were

Unfortunately, the food did nothing to redeem the experience. I ordered The Ernster PO’Boy, and it was profoundly underwhelming. It was a lazy presentation and assembled with no care or effort at all. It was as if you blindfolded a 3 month old baby and asked them cook. The flavors were unbalanced and unpleasant, the ingredients did not taste fresh, and the overall execution felt careless. It was not simply mediocre — it was genuinely unappetizing. There was no indication of effort, creativity, or pride in the preparation.

Dining out should feel enjoyable, or at the very least professional. At Ernest Cafe it felt like it was a social experiment how rude you can be to a customer and get away with it. the combination of openly discourteous service and poorly executed food creates an experience that is difficult to justify. There is a significant difference between having an off day and maintaining a pattern of indifference toward customers while serving substandard dishes. Unfortunately, this felt like the latter.

I cannot recommend Ernest Cafe and would strongly advise others to consider alternative options.

Best gumbo I’ve had in New Orleans so far, reasonably priced beer with a good selection, and friendly staff. It’s a fun old building, and a hidden gem of a local eating place.

Not impressed tonight. They closed the kitchen before 11pm so no food. Drinks were great and the bartender was good.

The fried chicken on caesar salad was really good. The breading on the chicken was very good and the chicken was perfectly cooked.
