I'm not Haitian and I have no experience with Haitian foods. Fritai offers an experience of Haitian culture and food with a modern side.

Whenever I’m missing my mom’s kitchen I walk into Fritai and know I’m going to eat well, drink well, and probably dance while I’m doing it. Favorites are the appetizer platter with akra, plaintains, griot, and the rice & beans super taste like home.
Really wanted to like Fritai. So disappointed and dissatisfied. Party of 11, Haitian family in New Orleans for a birthday and wanted a taste of home. I made reservations weeks in advance.
Right away service was poor. We had an adolescent to add to one table - the would not add a chair and then we stood while they waited 5 minutes to get one. Two tables - messed up orders at one, not attentive, and one waitress was flat out rude - she has short natural hair without glasses....read full review

Fritai is an excellent place to eat, offering a nice atmosphere and a vibrant bar. The restaurant can get busy, but the wait is worth it. The kabrit platter remains a must-try, featuring generous portions of tender goat meat with an incredible fried rib/cracklin texture. It comes highly recommended! The twice-fried goat is crisp on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth tender, while the griot and pineapple upside cake are also fantastic. The fritay platter for three is amazing, boasting the best acra and griot ever tasted. The oxtails are perfection, falling off the bone and delicious. Guests have also enjoyed the sos pwa with tofu, praising the coconut bean sauce and plantains, although some wished for more tofu in the dish. The legume and kremas have also received positive remarks, with the kremas described as 🔥. Pair any meal with a glass of hibiscus lemonade, and don’t forget to ask for a side of pikliz, which is flavorful and slightly sweet. The staff is incredibly friendly and personable, enhancing the dining experience. The decor features beautiful original pieces of Haitian art, and both the restaurant and bathrooms are very clean. Overall, the food, drinks, and vibe make Fritai a place that could easily become a monthly staple.
