This is by far, the best meal we have ever had in New Orleans. Run to this place. They will treat you like family. Smiles all around. The food is top drawer eve though the decor tries to tell you it isn’t!! Bbq shrimp is amazing, redfish, tasty and satisfying… and the star of the show was the alligator sausage cheesecake which is not dessert. Light, fluffy, and flavorful…they are so proud they even post the recipe on the door. Our server Adrienne, brought over 2 complimentary desserts. I will be back every time I am in town. There are not enough stars… excellent!

Great service. Ribeye was excellent and barbecue shrimp was good. Didn’t care for the cheesecake.
What an institution. The side dishes were banging, the etoufee was amazing, the rabbit loin a very fried chicken-y experience, and the alligator cheesecake just being something way too rich for our taste.
This is a stick to your ribs, homey Cajun restaurant. Can't go wrong overall. But get the crawfish etoufee!
The inside was bit too humid and sticky though (complaining as a Canadian tourist, don't mind me)

A Hidden Gem in New Orleans: Jacques-Imo's Restaurant, located at 8324 Oak Street, New Orleans, LA.
If you're heading to New Orleans, you absolutely have to check out Jacques-Imo's! I recently had a layover in this vibrant city before boarding a cruise, and I stumbled upon this delightful spot that was highly recommended for an authentic New Orleans meal. Let me tell you, the advice was spot on!
When I arrived at Jacques-Imo's, I was greeted by a charming little building tucked away on Oak Street. Despite its unassuming exterior, there was a lively line stretching out the door—always a good sign! I waited for about an hour to get in, and honestly, it was worth every minute. Once I stepped inside, I was taken by the unique and picturesque decor. The walls and ceilings are adorned with framed photos, giving the place a cozy, eclectic feeling that immediately made me think I was inside a museum.
After being seated in a connected area of the restaurant, I was ready to dig in. We started with their cornbread muffins, and let me just say, they were the best I've ever had! I had to ask for a second & third rounds because they were that good—warm, fluffy, and perfectly sweet.
For my main course, I went with the blackened redfish served with mashed sweet potatoes, red beans, and a house salad. Wow! The flavors were divine; the fish was perfectly seasoned, and the sides complemented it beautifully. The presentation was top-notch too, making it almost too pretty to eat (almost!).
A word of advice: if you're planning to dine here, make a reservation! They recommend booking at least a month in advance for groups of five or more. If you're a smaller party of four or fewer, it's still a good idea to reserve ahead of time, as walk-ins can face long waits. As proof of waiting.
Getting to Jacques-Imo's from downtown New Orleans took me about 40 minutes by Uber, but the journey was well worth it for such an incredible meal.
In short, I can’t recommend Jacques-Imo's enough! Whether you're a local or just passing through, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic New Orleans cuisine. Happy dining!

Just by walking in, the decor is so homey and vintage. Sets the mood for the food.
The food was great. First time trying the shrimp and gator cheesecake!! It's not your usual cheesecake since it's more towards the savory side rather than sweet, but definitely something to try.
I did enjoy their complimentary cornbread which was nice and hot and smothered in butter. A great place to try if you're visiting or are in the area!!

Miss Amelia and her team are Saints!!! They took my rather large order last minute so I could feed my work group that is here helping with hurricane francine. Although we are away from home its nice to go to bed with a delicious warm meal from Jacques-Imo's. Thanks again for your hospitality! P.S. the Jambalaya was great!!! -

Was really hyped about this NO experience! Had heard great things about the food, but I was truly disappointed in what we had.
Everything seemed to be prepared without true thought to flavors, preparation, and presentation. We began with the chicken livers. They were large rather bland. The sauce they were in was tasty but salty and greasy. The spinach salad was nasty. My husband has the stuffed pork chop that was pretty good. I had the paneed rabbit, and it was just terrible. The rabbit Tenderloin was clearly a frozen pre-breaded buy-in that was deep fried till it was a crispy, breaded shoe tongue. We also added two pieces of fried chicken thighs that were pretty good. They were hot and fresh. That's about all i can say about the fried chicken. The sides were just par as well. Both the butter beans and red beans were canned and then "flavored." The cabbage was pretty good.
The best thing was the bread pudding.
Servers were great and most definitely enjoyed their job.
Back to the Paneed Rabbit dish...it was so disappointing. It was served with pasta, a stingy ham, and shrimp. The pasta was shells..horrible! Would have been so much better served with linguini noodles, a stronger ham, and leave the shrimp out...it was so unnecessary.
My overall recommendation is... Go back to your original know-how. If it means limiting the menu to get your recipes back on track then do that. Cook your own food and stay away from so many canned and frozen items. I went there from a recommendation I got from my lyft driver, and from that, 12 of us went on Saturday evening at different times. So trust me, recommendations matter to the bottom line.
