My husband and I ate here for the first time. The wait was long but the food was delicious. The redfish and catfish were seasoned nicely and were delicious. I recommend giving this place a try.
Loved this place. It has a real NOLA feel to it. The service was great, and the food was excellent. We shared 3 appetizers. The Garlic Snails, Shrimp & Alligator sausage cheesecake, and Jacques duck and Andouille gumbo. They don't take reservations, so we got there about a half-hour early and were the first in line. This was during the week so we could have got there about 15 minutes early and would have been fine.
Get the shrimp and alligator cheesecake. It's life changing.

Came here on all the recommendations seen all over… its a funky little dive, very lively with a rambunctious feel. It’s not quiet, but not overwhelming. The menu all looks fantastic and we had a hard time choosing. They start you with garlic cornbread and a simple spinach salad. Very good. My wife and I each had grouper. Hers was an Asian twist and mine was blackened with two big shrimp on top. They were both excellent. The sides are small but filling. I had fries and cabbage, my wife mashed potatoes and corn. My daughter had blackened redfish with mashed potatoes and corn. There was a small issue with hers but it was returned and fixed immediately and then taken off the bill. That was not expected at all but is indicative of the over the top great service. Imagine our surprise when they even brought out crème brûlée and bread pudding for us to enjoy. It was excellent, too. Overall this was an excellent meal, actually our best in New Orleans.
This was the meal I knew we couldn't miss during our trip. And afterwards understood why. Everything about the experience was a 10/10. Wait for the table, minimal. Twenty minutes at most. Spent that time at Maple Leaf next door. Server gracious and enjoyable. Never have I seen venison on a menu before and it was a great choice! Very unique take on French fries. Alligator Cheesecake was a meal in itself for someone with a smaller appetite. I'll ride the street car for this meal again, gladly!!
I had to wait an hour on the phone to get a reservation, but it was worth it. This restaurant was recommended by my daughter, who is a student at Tulane. I see it has also reached the top ten list of eateries in NOLA. The restaurant was extremely loud with lots of happy, drunk patrons. Really loud. But our fantastic server and the great food made up for it. The chef knows what he's doing; every plate was wonderful. I would go here again. Highly recommended. It's worth their quirky reservation system.
Six of us were seated at a round table. Our server Megan was excellent. Bar was exceptional. Appetizers very good, especially the alligator cheesecake. House cornbread biscuits were a huge hit. Everyone enjoyed their entree. The one negative was the very loud music, played by speakers directly over most tables. The loudness made for frustratingly difficult conversation. We would enjoy the music if it were not so blaringly loud. Notch it down a decibel or two. Probably won’t rerun.
If someone had asked me (and some did) which was my favorite restaurant worldwide (never having been to Noma, but having travelled widely), I would have selected this place, up until my most recent opportunity . I'd been here three or four times previously, though it had been nine years since the last time. Having had a late lunch, I wasn't hungry enough to order an entree. Instead, I chose three appetizers: the crabmeat-stuffed shrimp, the duck/andouille gumbo, and the trademark shrimp/alligator sausage cheesecake (which is more like a quiche). I didn't care for the crabmeat stuffing in the jumbo shrimp, though the shrimp themselves were well-prepared. The gumbo had a nice flavor, if a touch salty, but was not heated through. The cheesecake, which I've enjoyed rapturously on my previous visits to Jacques-Imo's, did not provide anywhere near that level of satisfaction on this occasion, though I'm unable to say exactly why. Every restaurant, if I've eaten there enough times, ultimately disappoints. I hope this last experience proves an anomaly, as I'd give Jacquees-Imo's perfect ratings for the three or four prior times I've dined here.
It was New Year's Eve and I was not certain what would be available but I took a chance and got there shortly after they opened. It took only a few minutes before I was seated at a table which gave a wonderful view of the kitchen to me (& having been in the business for years watching the comings and goings was more than entertaining). I had barely opened my menu when I was approached by a young woman who welcomed me, recited specials, took a cocktail order, and then introduced me to my waiter. The waiter, whose name escapes me right now, was excellent but there must have been a half-dozen others who approached my table for one reason or another and went out of their way to be unobtrusively pleasant (including what I surmise is the owner). The food was not disappointing at all. I had heard good things about the shrimp & alligator sausage cheesecake so had to try it and found it very good (the only issue was that they could not decide if it should be hot or cold so part was lukewarm and part was almost chilled). A special was a "carpetbagger" steak that sounded interesting so I ordered that and it was excellent (not the best filet I have ever had but very good and cooked perfectly and seasoned well). It was topped by a tasso hollandaise which was excellent and I ordered red beans and rice and corn maque choux as sides and both were very good. A passable spinach salad was included and absolutely delightful corn muffins were served on arrival and again w/ dinner (I am kicking myself that I did not order a dozen to take w/ me for the next day w/ jambalaya at the rental) All in all it was a great meal and I look forward to returning when back in NOLA

Start with the restaurant is so funny to be in the service is impeccable. All the food was good except for the grouper which was quickly remedied. My red fish was amazing. It was some kind of oyster cheesecake appetizer was truly decadent.
Get the stuffed catfish
This is by far, the best meal we have ever had in New Orleans. Run to this place. They will treat you like family. Smiles all around. The food is top drawer eve though the decor tries to tell you it isn’t!! Bbq shrimp is amazing, redfish, tasty and satisfying… and the star of the show was the alligator sausage cheesecake which is not dessert. Light, fluffy, and flavorful…they are so proud they even post the recipe on the door. Our server Adrienne, brought over 2 complimentary desserts. I will be back every time I am in town. There are not enough stars… excellent!

Great service. Ribeye was excellent and barbecue shrimp was good. Didn’t care for the cheesecake.
What an institution. The side dishes were banging, the etoufee was amazing, the rabbit loin a very fried chicken-y experience, and the alligator cheesecake just being something way too rich for our taste.
This is a stick to your ribs, homey Cajun restaurant. Can't go wrong overall. But get the crawfish etoufee!
The inside was bit too humid and sticky though (complaining as a Canadian tourist, don't mind me)
