Black Family Restaurant. The macaroni and cheese taste like the box, the yams were sweet but over cooked, and the Gumbo was fair. The stars of the show was the fried chicken and dirty rice.

Great representation of southern food at reasonable prices with good portions. With great food came a great system of service, the hostess explaining how to order and get a table . The eating does not need any guidance as the well flavored food makes you clean your plate. Tuesday special white beans and rice with amazing fried chicken , cornbread and mac n cheese and yam sides. March on in and you will be among the happy numbers.

We came here the last time we visited, it is still awesome, though they did do away with the buffet, probably since COVID. We think they have the best fried chicken, but in reality, everything we have ordered there has been so very good. They are usually busy when we go, so there is a line to get table service. But the line moves quickly, as the family is super efficient. Prices are fair, which is something we can't say for too many other businesses in the area. Highly recommend.

Don’t waste your time coming here. I visited this restaurant February 18th around 1pm. This is my first time traveling to New Orleans and the food is just plain soul food that I could’ve gotten from back home. The chicken was also slightly raw but the service is what mainly upsets me. Not being from the south I was hoping to experience the southern hospitality but instead I encountered this rude Black lady who failed to help assist me on my very basic needs. After waiting for about an hour on line for my food I ended up misplacing my water that I bought from them ( which was $3) and when I went back to try to let her know the first time she rolled her eyes and told me to wait and then when she came back she told me to join the end of the line if I want another water. I had already spent an hour waiting for the food and by the time we received it the line was even longer. Even though the situation was so small it really killed my mood because I’ve been looking forward to trying this place for the longest and it did not meet my expectations at all. I also ended up not getting back on line for the water because we had a flight to catch so this whole experience was an inconvenience and we could’ve spent our time & money elsewhere.

I enjoyed my food. It was a solid 8/10. I had the Saturday special (smothered pork chops over white rice), dirty rice, mac and cheese, fried chicken, corn bread, and a strawberry lemonade. The pork chops were perfect and tender. They were the star of the show. The mac and cheese full of flavor, and the dirty rice was excellent as well. We waited about 45 min to get in as the line was down the sidewalk. We got there around 11:30. They had already sold out of potato salad. We finally got our food around 12:30. My friend had fried fried shrimp and collard greens. She did not enjoy her meal as much as I did and wished she would have gotten what I had.

Mac and cheese, dirty rice and jaces crab cakes were amazing. The gumbo was really good too. Their fried chicken was average at best, it wasn’t crispy and wasn’t that flavorful. Greens weren’t good either they tasted like the ones you get out of the can or maybe they just over cooked them. The greens needed more seasoning.
