We were here on the last night before they closed. Sorry to see this restaurant go. We always enjoyed coming here for some great food.
The Myanmar tea leaf salad with added shrimp was superb - I'm going to miss this amazing restaurant in 2025
The food was delicious and the service was excellent but the server was overwhelmed with too many tables, the restaurant was loud and it took a long time to get served. Management was not so great.
This place is cozy and casual but the food is on point. The whole cooked fish is delicious! Tons of flavor great drinks. Staff was so friendly, we kept talking and they were not pushy at all as they started closing procedures ?
Located on Julia Street in the Warehouse District, Carmo is an outstanding---and unique example of how ethnic food can be both flavorful and healthy. Though I had been to Peru decades ago, I had never tasted food like my husband and I tasted last week. Highly recommend the Seafood Soup, the Farmer's Market Salad and the Banquette Bread. We also had mocktails called Easy Breezy," which were simply wonderful. Bonus Tip: Go on a weeknight when it is less likely to be crowded---and parking is likely to be easier, too.
This used to be one of her favorite restaurants. The night we went, was very crowded, and they were a bit overwhelmed. Food is good, but not as great as it normally is. Also, they brought all the food at once, instead of bringing out the three courses they ordered separately.
Out of items already at 7 pm on a weekday, cocktails had to be sent back for missing ingredients, service was spotty (ran out of water twice, had to ask); on the positive side, the food was very good and location excellent. We'll try again based on the reputation of the chef and the food we did get.
A great space but the vibe was disrupted by a large group that was having a Christmas gift opening session. For some reason, the music was turned off so all we could hear was their party. Ordering the food was confusing as it wasn't clear if we had a server or was doing this online. Some of the dishes were good and others were too salty. There could be more balance. would not recommend this place or return.
We had an enjoyable dinner of fresh, vegetable focused delicious dishes at Carmo. There were many choices for vegetarian and gluten free diners. The cormo salad was tasty and filling. We shared plates of Brazilian cheese bread made with tapioca and the cocktails featured South American spirits like cachaca. The restaurant was spacious, has a large bar and accommodated our group of six easily. It was a welcome change from the heavy creole and Cajun dishes on other menus.
Great experience! Nice laid back atmosphere with some nice artwork on the walls. Picnic tables are the main seating, which are not very comfortable after a while, but they work for the space. Food was great! I had the beans and rice with vegan sausage and it was excellent. Definitely worth a return trip.

Charming restaurant with a focus on Latin American food. Anywhere from Peruvian to Puerto Rico -not exactly elevated but extremely well done. on the comfort side. Make sure you get the desserts which are made in-house. I had a baby apple pie, which was so outstanding that I was tempted to order a second one. Very pleasant room, modern style and at least on that night. Notably quiet which seems unusual these days for restaurants. they have a nice modest- priced little wine list. They also have a local made Porcher on tap which is fantastic. Bottom line: nice restaurant with tasty food. I would definitely go again and highly recommend it.
I went there last night for dinner with a Vegetarian friend. They only offered about four different items on the menu, but they were able to make the Ricoh vegetarian. They also had a noodles/curry dish. That was also vegetarian and good however, it took me about 15 minutes to get a glass of water And our waiter seemed brand new and I heard him talking about being a construction worker in the daytime, so this was obviously a part-time gig and he wasn’t very attentive, although friendly. So I would ding the service a bit because everybody seemed like they were just running around in circles, and there was only four people there total but the food was good.
Excelent food, the quinoa, and sweet potato fritters were especially delicious. The kitchen was attentive to food allergies and preferences. The wait staff seemed young and a bit inexperienced but polite and reasonably attentive to our table of 6.
I'm working in New Orleans for a month and this is one of my personal favorite restaurants so far, and there are a lot. It's a comfortable atmosphere, friendly and the food is delicious and healthy.
I was on my own while my wife was at a conference. I didn't know what to expect here, but I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is casual Latin American/Carribean, with artwork on the walls and plants here and there. Service was prompt and friendly. I ordered iced tea, and I love that both my tea and my water glass were replenished multiple times. I have to eat gluten-free, and my waitress was knowledgeable and helped me order something that was safe for me. The menu is interesting, featuring some dishes I have not previously encountered. I was intrigued by a green tea salad, and also by their many varieties of ceviche. I ended up ordering the salad -- which featured thinly sliced cabbage, cooked green tea leaves, nuts and other cruchy elements -- which was delicious. I also ordered the Peruvian style ceviche, which itself featured a goodly amount of accompanying vegetables. I think it was quite good too, although I've not had a lot of ceviche in my life, so I can't really make that comparison. I didn't finish the salad, and was able to bring some home in a carry-out box. The prices were quite reasonable. All-in-all it was a really pleasant, restful and relaxing lunch that helped me recover from the New Orleans heat. I would definitely return there if I find myself in New Orleans again.
