I stop at McKenzie’s often when I’m passing through town, and I usually get good service. There’s always the same lady behind the counter, and although she’s not the friendliest, she normally takes care of us without any issues.
Today was different. I’m not sure if she was having a bad morning, but I asked to order a breakfast platter and replace the sausage with hot sausage. She told me they only sell hot sausage as a sandwich. I said that was fine and asked if I could just get the hot sausage with my platter and skip the bread. She said, “Hold on, let me check,” then went to the back and never came back. I was left standing there waiting, feeling like she didn’t want to serve me.
I eventually walked out because it was taking so long. I came back in just to let her know not to worry about the order, and she responded with a very nonchalant “okay,” as if it didn’t matter either way. I’ve always come in friendly, but today the attitude and lack of service really caught me off guard.
It’s disappointing because even though we don’t live here, we always make sure to stop by and support this business whenever we visit. After today’s experience, I’m not sure if we’ll return.

This place is wonderful. The buttermilk drops are the best. Just like I had when I was a kid at McKenzie’s. Staff is really nice and helpful. Highly recommended.

I grew up in New Orleans and haven't had a proper Raspberry filled powder sugar donut since I was a kid. We were there for Mardi Gras and we stopped in and got a few. I got the Raspberry one and it was absolutely perfectly delicious. It brought me back to childhood.
Perfect flavor and amount of jelly and a moist donut. Thank you for making me feel like a kid again. 😀
Always fresh & consistent!

Try the Buttermilk Drop Bakery on Dorgenois in NOLA. The drops are just as good and the staff is more welcoming.

The king cakes are stale! I know very well what they are supposed to taste like and the one I got Thursday was not edible! Do not go to the Harrison Avenue store. The manager is rude!

Yesterday I bought 8 Boston creams and 2 eclairs. The chocolate icing has become horrible quality. It tasted like pure sugar. I have been buying Tastee donuts, especially eclairs and Boston creams.I started as a customer in the 70's in Arabi. This is not what I was getting just a month ago. This experience has ruined my few quality vices. I threw away 18 dollars of your product. 5 decades ends bad.Never again. Ken Brown

I cheated on my diet and bought a chocolate eclair. It was so dry and stale I couldn't believe I was in a bakery. I've NEVER experienced stale baked goods in a bakery. You expect it from a convenience store but not a bakery. When I called them to complain I asked when they baked it. I was told they were made the night before. I find that very hard to believe. Terrible.

Came into this dirty “cafe” about 5 minutes ago. This was around 10:30 am May 25th and it was a pretty bad experience. My father asked the girl working how long the food would take and the girl told him 5-10 minutes depending what we order and then mumbled “this isn’t a fast food restaurant” under her breath. When I confronted her about it she didn’t seem to care about the way she talked to my father. She was an over weight white woman with glasses and the man working (who I assumed was the manager or owner) didn’t really seem to care how she was talking to customers. The coffee also tasted like disgusting hotel coffee that I ended up throwing away so I can get District’s coffee. The atmosphere looks like a Burger King that belongs on the westbank. No wonder no one is ever at Tastee when I drive by. Do yourself a favor and try Nola Bean or district instead.
