I treated myself and a bestie to VIP tix to the van ella bordella show and my only complaint is that my face hurts from smiling so much.
Confidence is Queen and this cast is ROYALTY!
They breathed life onto the stage and we were there for it!
I highly recommend catching this burlesque show and supporting this cast.
And definitely splurge on the VIP tickets!

This place is pure magic! We went for a 21st birthday trip for my daughter and it was the highlight of our visit! We had an issue come up and they were so kind and accommodating so that we could still go and enjoy the show. I was corresponding with Zalia, and she was so quick to respond and so reassuring that we could make this birthday celebration happen. Lola, the show’s producer and star, was also so kind and reassuring that my daughter did not have to miss the show. We had such a wonderful time that we plan to go back each visit and drag everyone to the show that we possibly can. I’m confident they will become fans, just as we did. Do yourself a favor and go to the Van Ella Bordella show! It’s super racy, risky, raunchy, and we loved every minute of it!

Another thing that I must note, is that my daughter has terrible social anxiety and even though they knew it was her birthday and they have a little skit they do for people who are there for special occasions, they did not call her out when she didn’t identify herself as the birthday girl. I cannot begin to tell you how much my mama heart appreciated that.

This is an incredible group of people and performers. I am so grateful that we got to celebrate such a special occasion at The Allways Lounge! Thank you Lola, Zalia and your wonderful cast for an unforgettable night!

Hands down the most fun I had in new Orleans, and I would have never known about it if it hadn't been for a local who told me! Every show is different and they are all worth it.

I came to Van Ella Bordella for my birthday, excited after reading all the glowing reviews — unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The concept is clever, and the tone is unapologetically raunchy in that classic New Orleans way, but the execution just wasn’t there.

Let me start with the positives: The Madam was absolutely gorgeous, and one of the dancers bore a striking resemblance to Jennifer Beals, which was unexpectedly entertaining. The show had some great humor, well-placed political jabs, and a proud, queer-positive energy that I genuinely appreciated. That part was fantastic.

But unfortunately, that’s where the fantastic parts ended.

The singing was distractingly off-key — and not in a campy or stylized way. It felt like karaoke without the charm, and it pulled me right out of the experience. I also found the staging really frustrating. Most of the performance happened on stage, but the immersive, walk-through moments were overwhelmingly focused on the center aisle and two specific VIP tables placed directly in front of the stage. We were seated in the VIP section too, right at the stage on a corner table, but it was clear that location made a big difference. Only one performer briefly came near our side during the walkarounds — not even long enough to tip — while others got extended attention and interaction. All VIP seats cost the same and were assigned, so it’s not like we opted for a less involved experience.

Overall, Van Ella Bordella has its heart in the right place, but it needs serious tightening in vocals, staging, and overall cohesion. If you’re into the vibe alone and don’t mind missing large chunks of the action, it might still be a fun night. But if you’re expecting top-tier burlesque or immersive theater, manage your expectations.

This was hands down the most awkward and unfunny show I’ve ever seen. The drinks? Overpriced and absolutely terrible. Save your money.

What a spot! There's two different performance areas, and my girlfriend and I came here during our first trip to New Orleans in October 2024. We came here because there was a burlesque event being put on by a dancer we used to watch in Michigan (Vivacious Miss Audacious), and the show did NOT disappoint! Lots of great dancers and talent on display.

In the other event space, there was some kind of Juggalo Burlesque show going on, and I probably would have checked that out had we not already been there for the other thing.

Area was a LITTLE dicey, but other than that, if you're into such things, I'd recommend checking out what events are being hosted here whenever you happen to be in town. It also exists in a kind of "Holy Trinity" of entertainment - you have this club, and then across the street, you have a gothic dive bar (Siberia) and a Barcade (Emporium), so you'd better believe we spent a lot of time at all three places!

PS: Always tip your dancers. A lady was even coming by the seats before the show to break big bills, which was cool.

We went to a burlesque show for a birthday, and it was amazing! The performers were absolutely gorgeous and so talented—it was such a beautiful and fun display of art. I saw the drag burlesque show there and have mixed feelings. I am gay and progressive and also am upset about the political state of our country right now, but there were some parts of the show centered around that that made myself and other audience members deeply uncomfortable. There was graphic Trump voodo-esque part with some details I won’t reveal here for fear of causing more unnecessary worry from the right, but it all felt…classless? And went on far too long. I could just tell by the vibe in the room and the body language of everyone around me that those of us who had been into it suddenly were not. And all I could think about was that if someone happened to be filming and conservatives got ahold of the video, it would be bad news bears.

Parts of the show also felt disjointed. I think I just felt like the tickets and tips were expensive and was hoping for more.

However! The dancers themselves were amazing and a lot of fun and there was a particular one with a nonbinary theme that was soooo powerful.

I’ll also say that this was just a one off show there. I can tell that it’s a fun atmosphere and it may just have been an off night.

What a great group of folks and a show that had a focus on the history of burlesque. Beauty and history combined!

Parking: Easy walk from the French Quarter.

Kid-friendliness: Are you kidding me? No, and we don't want them here.
