Great drink menu and the food is excellent

What a delightful surprise to find such a sophisticated menu in Ruston! Extensive cocktail menu, with old favorites and imaginative new ones. I can recommend the French 75😏 The redfish meunière was perfect, and my friend’s shrimp and grits was excellent. Pimiento and cheese has been done to death, but try theirs—you’ll be glad you did. We went at peak time on a Friday night, so drink initial drink service was a bit slow, but everything flowed smoothly after that. If you’re lucky, Trish will take care of you!

We travelled to Ruston area for a golf tournament at Squire Creek; we had no idea on where to eat. Stumbled upon White Lightnin' and we are sooo glad we did. The food was amazing. The first night we had the pork chop with pear chutney sauce and it was tremendous. We ate at a different restaurant the second night which was just OK. We returned to White Lightnin' the third night and we all had the filet mignon with BBQ shrimp and wow they were so good. No kidding, it was in the top five best steaks I have ever had and I've had many great steaks in my long life. The BBQ shrimp was delicious as well. The service was really good with friendly servers. And the bourbon menu was 4 pages long!!! I highly recommend White Lightnin' !!!

A Tale of Two Dishes
My recent visit to White Lightening Restaurant in Ruston, LA, offered a glimpse into their culinary approach with two distinct dishes: the salt and pepper steak and the redfish with moux choux.
Dining early meant the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, which I appreciated. The staff were notably attentive, ensuring our drink glasses remained consistently full throughout the meal – a small detail that significantly enhances the dining experience.
Turning to the food, the salt and pepper steak was prepared precisely as requested in terms of cooking temperature. The generous application of pepper was certainly noticeable. While those with a penchant for bold, peppery flavors will likely appreciate it, individuals accustomed to more subtly seasoned dishes, perhaps those less familiar with traditional Southern preparations, might find the pepper level quite prominent.
The highlight of the meal, however, was undoubtedly the redfish paired with the corn moux choux. This combination was truly exceptional. The delicate flavor of the redfish was beautifully complemented by the creamy, slightly sweet, and savory notes of the moux choux. The two elements worked in perfect harmony, creating a delightful and memorable culinary experience.
Overall, my experience at White Lightening was positive, marked by attentive service and a peaceful ambiance during an early dinner. While the salt and pepper steak offers a bold flavor that may not appeal to all, the redfish with moux choux is a standout and a dish I would wholeheartedly recommend.

Food was great! Had the Caesar salad and smash burger. Would definitely recommend. Atmosphere is dim and relaxing. This place is very popular.
Bourbon selection was amazing!

We stopped at White Lightnin' after googling places to eat - just passing through Ruston. The staff is very attentive, kind, and courteous. Diverse crowd and good music. The food took a few minutes longer than expected, but the host-owner told us himself that the first plates were not up to par, so he sent them back. We were comped a drink and they took excellent care of us. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and was very flavorful. My partner had the blackened redfish, which she really enjoyed. No room for dessert! I am sure we will stop in again.

White Lightnin’ ⚪️🤍⚡️

Casual, sophisticated bites in Tuston, LA. Very impressed with the menu here. Service was great, fast, and helpful picking from the menu. Inside gave me a south Louisiana vibe with live music playing while we were there. I recommend the Pimento app and the herbed tuna. LARGE cocktail menu has something to suit anyone’s taste. I am@not up here often but I will definitely come back for round 2!

This place is a gem. Truly creative menu with some great choices. We had five people at our table, everyone had a different dish, and everything was exceptional. The chef stopped at our table and was very personable. We live 30 miles away and will be making the drive many more times.
