Arigato Japanese Restaurant

The sushi is exceptional at Arigato, fresh and delicious every time. It is our go-to for a good meal and, in our opinion, the best food in Amherst.

We came in with a group of 6. The restaurant was not full at all, maybe 4 other tables. Maybe that should have been our first warning? Our food came out ENTIRELY at different times. By the time the last person received their food, the first person served had cold food. Every sweet potato received by the table was undercooked and starchy as if they battered a raw slice and tossed it in the fryer. If you get the udon soup, you get a just a single half slice of fish cake thin enough to almost see through. The photo included will capture before I tried anything. If you order nigiri, you have a half teaspoon of rice. For every server in there it must be their first serving job, maybe first job ever? A lot of eye rolling by our server. I appreciate a good eye rolling, but not over questions such as “can she have some silverware” and “hey, we ordered tea before our entree orders were taken.. may we have our tea?” This place has great reviews, what happened?!

My experience was trash. First the pushing to order fast in a nearly empty restaurant was off putting. Second our orders didn’t even come out together. Thirdly the last of our food was out twenty minutes before we had to leave and wasn’t even what we ordered. They were didn’t even offer a discount on the bill I refused to pay it.

Ordered takeout online. Fresh fish, but overpriced. Sashimi was nice, but the rolls were the smallest I have ever seen, minimal fish, not enough rice to even coat the outside of the roll and poorly assembled so they fell apart. No miso, soy sauce, or utensils included. Another victim of shink-flation I assume, but that still doesn't explain the poor construction and presentation. Seems like they have a college student cranking out rolls in the back rather than an actual chef. I won't be a return customer.

Not a fancy or high brow sushi place but the quality of the food is first rate. The family that runs this place serves the best sushi in western Massachusetts even if it is not the most expensive or the most chic.

My husband took me there for a sushi date a couple of weeks ago, and the sushi was fantastic! We are very picky when it comes to sushi and we are massive salmon lovers, and he couldn't recommend this place to me enough on how fresh they are, and he wasn't wrong. It didn't disappoint, and the staff was very friendly. If we are ever in the area again to visit, we know where to come for sushi ??

The sushi, sashimi, and rolls are fantastic. Just great, great fish. The service this night was unfortunately badly lacking, leaving the sushi chef down a bit. Still best fish in Amherst.
