Update 2025: I haven't been back to Soall since my meat experience in 2022~2023 but several vegan and vegetarian friends of mine have all had serious issues with their service, misleading info in the past year on what is or isn't veg/vegan, etc. so I really cannot recommend this place at all if you have veg dietary restrictions. At this point, the restaurant should probably just stop advertising any sort of veg-friendly attributes at all. Maybe they already have. Update 2022~2023: have been given misinformation from staff about what is vegan and what isn’t several times since my first visit, such as being told that the Mayo used on the Bahn Mi is vegan when it really isn’t. Today I got the “vegan egg rolls”, which were explicitly marked as such on my receipt and the box only to realize that they contained pork and prawn (no mention of “pork” anywhere on the labeling or packaging unless you look on their website) which is totally unacceptable. Because of this explicit vegan labeling, I had no idea that they even served pork egg rolls so I accidentally ate meat for the first time in thirteen years and am disgusted. So if you decide to go here, just triple check that what you ordered is actually vegan before eating it because apparently, who knows if what you’re getting is vegan or not… Giving them two stars because I used to love this place and when it’s good, it’s great, but I don’t see myself returning after several misleading experiences. — Old review from 2021: Modern take on Vietnamese staples. Various vegan options including vegan egg rolls, impeccable Brussels sprouts, two excellent vegan Bahn mi options (tofu puffs or caramelized eggplant), veggie pho, massive vermicelli bowl, etc. The carmelized tofu puffs found in the spring rolls, the pho, and available as a side are addictive. The menu might not seem super special at first glance but trust me, it’s worth the visit. Updated from previous review on 2025-07-28

I work within walking distance of Soall Cafe, so I'm lucky enough to have this lunch option every day. I've sampled much of the menu and its clear that an abundance of pride and quality goes into each offering. Wholesome alchemy is abound with fantastic flavors, ideal portions, pronounced quality, and warm service. If Soall were the only available lunch option, I would be ecstatic to not be distracted by other meals! My go-to dish is the Curry Chicken Noodle Soup which I could enjoy every day and never fatigue from the expert balance of flavors and textures. Although there is a sense of longing at the end of the meal, the satisfaction from a healthful satiation follows for the rest of the day without an afternoon slump from less nutritious options. This is a true gem and not to be missed.

While not wholly vegan, there are plenty of options and the staff will cater to your needs. The fried tofu puff dishes are all great.

EDIT: BAHN MI IS NOT VEGAN EVEN WITHOUT MAYO. There was some confusion over if the Bahn Mi was vegan, so I emailed the owner and received this as a response: "Our banh mi can NOT be made vegan simply by omitting the mayo. There is butter in our bread recipe. I feel sick to my stomach that you were told otherwise." She apologized and made it right, but I wanted to let everyone know because I was giving out bad information. I was told it was vegan last year and never asked about it again. OLD REVIEW: ------ There is not a lot that’s specifically labeled vegan on the menu, just like 2 appetizers and the pho. But talking to the waiter, he said they could make anything vegan by request - i.e. omitting the fish sauce in the rice/noodle bowls, and omitting the Mayo on the Banh Mi. We got the vegan egg rolls, which were excellent. I got the tofu & veggie pho - it was extremely flavorful. I had added the deluxe veggies to it and it was worth it. The tofu was a little bland, though. My husband got the noodle bowl made vegan, fish sauce omitted. He said it was good but after trying my pho, he said my pho was better. I’d go again - looking forward to trying the banh mi. We’ll probably get it for takeout and add our own Mayo. Updated from previous review on 2022-10-15

Omg so good! A little tucked away but great seating indoor and outdoor. I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee and two mochi donuts for me and my mom. They were so yummy and freshly frosted. Can’t wait to go back again! (I’ve had their banh mi at their larger restaurant on Rantoul and can confirm it is amaze). Staff is kind and the team is top of the line, focused on creating good food. ❤️ ?

Beyond THRILLED that Soall has opened up here at the Cummings Center. Been loyal customers since they brought their stellar Vietnamese food to Rantoul street but having them in the CC is super awesome… now I don’t need to go across town for lunch! Best coffee at the Cummings Center by a MILE.
