We had a wonderful night out at Baleia. All the food was well grounded in Portuguese staples, and each but was truly scrumptious!

Our first time at Baleia, and we’d absolutely recommend it and return. The savory cheese tarts, Portuguese sweet bread, and Whole Roasted Fish were the stand outs for us. In general, everything was cooked to perfection. The Mozambique Shrimp were the definition of succulent. My husband is not a huge fan of saffron, so the sauce wasn’t to his taste, but I found it delicious. The octopus carpaccio was bright, acidic, and so tender. A glass of Vinho Verde made for a well-rounded dinner.

The restaurant is beautiful, but it can become rather loud due to all the hard surfaces. We arrived at 6, but when we left at 8, the volume had increased significantly. Just a note for any of those that may need or prefer a quieter space.

Shrimp Mozambique was our favorite! We could not let them take the remaining chili lemon broth (because SO good) so we soaked that up with some extra bread. 10/10 recommend! Other favorites were the grilled cabbage with white beans and breadcrumbs. Curried eggplant with spiced cashew, thai basil. And the duck rice. Raphael was our server at the bar and he was fantastic.

food was all super dry and salty, and the waiter was super rude (condescending, and treated us like we couldn’t afford the food) + made us move tables mid meal

terrible experience

Probably one of the best meals I’ve had in Boston in the past year. Wonderful execution of flavors, textures, and technique. Pacing on the Explorador (tasting) menu was well timed and thoughtful….even as I threw curveballs adding extra dishes. Even eating at the bar by myself, the service was perfectly attentive. Absolutely looking forward to my next visit.

The Portuguese-inspired menu is chock full of authentic and artfully reimagined classic dishes.

We all went with the chef's tasting menu, which I thought was reasonably priced at $70, certainly in comparison to other prix fixe options at other places I've eaten. The food was nothing short of outstanding, each course introducing something that one of our party deemed the new favorite of the night.

The service was friendly, personable and very accommodating. I can't wait to return.

PS - extra points for the validated lot parking and the perfect directions to get there

We loved the idea of Portuguese food taken up a few notches but weren’t sure how the experience would turn out. But wow were we blown away! It wasn’t just the food and the drink, which were exceptional. The service and environment made it feel so personal and special. We still talk about it all weeks later. The seafood is of course delicious but everything from the sweet bread rolls to the pasteis at the end with some Madeira/Port to finish the meal, it was all exceptional. Really can’t say enough about the experience and we’ll be recommending to everyone we know!

I love Baleia!! It is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston! The atmosphere is amazing, the service is so warm and friendly and the food is great! We did the tasting menu and everything was delicious. However, I would order individual dishes next time. The tasting menu was a lot of heavier food but still great. I loved the muscles at the beginning of the tasting menu and the pastel de nata dessert. Also, I HIGHLY recommend their house vino verde. It was wonderfully crisp and delicious. Wonderful restaurant overall!

The service here was incredible. The staff are warm, welcoming, very hospitable and our waiter explained the menu and incorporated some stories of his travels to his recommendations which our table loved. I will say that the portion sizes are quite small even for tapas style dining. I would recommend the whole fish. They have validated parking but the lot was quite hard to locate.

All my friends were finally at the age where we could drink. We wanted a nice dinner after visiting the sowa winter festival. We went on a Tuesday night so there were only like 2 other tables so service was super nice and the waiters were extremely kind and accommodating. My boyfriend has a shellfish allergy and they took care of everything. I recommend the sweet roles with chamomile butter it’s so good. I also had a strawberry field mocktail since I am a light weight. I had oysters and so did one of my friend and on the menu it said $4 per oyster, but we were charged $2 each which is an amazing price for oysters. We wished we had ordered more. They had also thought they took too long bringing out my friends drink, so they completely comped it. We didn’t see any issues so it was super generous of them. My boyfriend got the Molha De Carne which he absolutely loved. He really wants to come back here for his graduation dinner next semester. It’s amazing here and I recommend it. I chose this place after seeing it was top rated on Google Maps and the reviews. We thought it would be pricier considering google said meals were between $50-$100 per person, but in total me and my boyfriend spent $87, $68 without tip and tax, which is significantly less than I thought we’d pay. Again amazing staff and we will be returning soon.

Semi Mediterranean tapas style cuisine.
We ordered most of dishes except oysters.
Carpaccio and Mozambique were best in our opinion. Our server sequenced our dishes in good order so we could few good hours of quality time.
Only issue is that the fire alarm there goes off frequently and light flashes and it takes 20 mins to reset, so it wasn’t a pleasant experience.

Unique flavors. Very chic and upscale restaurant. The manager was out on the floor working right alongside her employees. Which I love to see. My reservation was for 8:45 and the table wasn’t ready until 9. There’s no where to stand while waiting for your reservation. My friend suggested complimentary champagne be rendered to guests who have reservations and end up waiting with a massive group of patrons by the entrance.
This is a very popular spot so it was packed!

The food is more modern Portuguese, with flavorful twists. The cauliflower dish and eggplant dish were my favorites. Fabulous wine list, and beautiful decor. Would love to go back!
