“The staff at Brassica are so knowledgeable, fun, and friendly. They bump the best playlists, joke with you, discuss taste preferences, honor allergies, and are actually excited to provide a good dining experience. It's truly a neighborhood gem that I want to gatekeep so badly but will not because everyone deserves this level of stellar dining and the team here deserves to succeed! The food is funky with a heavy focus on fermentation along with honing culinary techniques from around the world without trying to put out “Asian food” or “Latin cuisine” or “fusion”, just their own creations. They make spirits in house (turns out I can like vermouth!) and source wines from places most others restaurants don’t dare to cover. It’s where I bring all my visitors if I can snag a table!”

The wait staff is professional, the drinks taste amazing (but are still strong), and the steak is some of the best I have ever had. The bread is always fresh that they bring to the table and the side are all very tasty. I highly recommend the tomahawk steak and a dirty martini from this place. A match made in heaven.”

“Fun restaurants on the border between Chinatown and downtown with a huge variety of hotpot offerings, different broths and other menu items for those that don’t want to engage in the messy fun. The service is great and super helpful especially for first timers. While the broths are great, overall the food is okay and will not blow your mind. The menu is a bit chaotic and it can be challenging to pick the right amounts and types of meat to use for the hotpot. I would probably try out different , smaller places going forward”

Honestly we were pretty skeptical at first, but we were extremy delighted by the very tasy, delicious food and warm and nice atmosphere. We loved it so much that we decided to stop by the next day again before we went to the airport! We met Jeorge and Kyle who are very professional, polite and nice guys. They helped us choose from their very interesting and outstanding pizza flavors. We have never tried such delicious pizza before. Also the big variety draft beers was very impressive. “La Voile offers a cozy and trendy atmosphere with excellent service and classic French cuisine. The portions come with the fine dining territory, but the quality is outstanding.Extended: Nestled in a charming setting, La Voile exudes an air of elegance and sophistication, making it a delightful destination for those seeking classic French cuisine. From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism, setting the tone for a memorable dining experience. The restaurant's ambiance is cozy yet trendy, with stylish decor and a welcoming atmosphere. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect, from the carefully curated wine list to the impeccably presented dishes. While the portions at La Voile may be smaller than some diners are accustomed to, the quality more than makes up for it. Each dish is beautifully plated (though I was unable to capture the excellence on camera) and bursting with flavor.I would like to note that the liver pâté was served generously but with a slight oversight in the amount of accompanying bread. However, this minor hiccup did not detract from the overall excellence of our meal. The menu at La Voile offers a range of classic French dishes, each prepared with care and attention to detail. From the rich and decadent sauces to the perfectly cooked proteins, every bite was a delight.La Voile is a charming restaurant that excels in both service and cuisine. While the portions may be small, the quality is exceptional, making it a perfect choice for those who appreciate quality over quantity.”

“The food overall was excellent. The fried calamari starter with those Italian peppers mixed in was a welcome surprise. The focaccia bread was really good and fresh served with a high-quality olive oil. I had the chicken parmesan with vodka sauce (#1). The sauce was fresh and bright and had just the right amount of bite from vodka (which is usually missing). My wife had the carbonara and she said it was good but carbonara traditionally doesn’t have cream in it and she would’ve liked a more egg forward traditional carbonara. That said, the pasta was cooked very well and there are several other great things about the restaurant. The Chef and owner was extremely attentive, even seeing us on the stairwell on the way out a half hour later asking about the meal, very impressive.”

“This restaurant is amazing, my favorite in Boston. We loved the meatballs, ragu, the NY strip steak, the panna cotta, and the cocktails. The steak was cooked perfectly, the sauce and accompaniments really make the dish shine. The service is impeccable, with new dishes between each course, timely service, and all around professionalism. I’ve gotten the orchiette pasta before and this time it wasn’t as I remembered - it had a bit of a charred flavor. We mentioned this, and we had a replacement dish in no less than 90 seconds. Truly impressive! The manager, Tyler, is an absolute delight, and apologized personally. He also brought us a lovely wine pairing with our pana cotta desert, which also included a candle and congratulations card, as I was celebrating that evening. I feel you really cannot go wrong with this restaurant, everything is impeccable and so worth it.”

Ma Maison 272 Cambridge St, Boston French • $$$

“When visiting a French restaurant expectations are high. The food tends to be exquisite and some dishes are here. The Foie Gras is amazing and so are all the deserts we tried. However the escargot which is something I always try at French restaurants was only ok.The service varies on who your server is as we had friends who came to the restaurant after we sat and we ordered before they even got their menus and yet they had their appetizers first. When looking for someone to call for a refill and even when we wanted the menus for desert, it is very difficult to catch anyone looking at your table as if each waiter will only look at their own table only. On the bright side they brought us water as soon as we sat and refilled it often. That is how I would get someone's attention...finish my water so someone could come by and I could ask for something. The place is very small and you will have to be a party of two and be lucky to get a table without a reservation, which is what happened with our friends..who came in a little after we sat and were hoping they could sit with us, but with such little space it seemed unlikely they would even be able to get a table but as they were asking a table for two was leaving. Its rather on the expensive side which can be understood with the quality of some of the dishes, however I would except everything to be great for these prices. Its a good place with potential to be great.”

“It's a treat to have tea here. The space is lovely and the service was exemplary! The food was delicious, very fresh and tasty combinations. We were served salmon mousse and lobster salad small sandwiches that would have been superb had they been on a lighter bread. All the other tea sandwiches were fabulous (egg salad, cucumber, and a mini roast beef in Yorkshire pudding) Scone with Devonshire cream and lemon curd was great and desserts were scrumptious. Individual pots of tea from a varied selection of teas rounded out our meal. I particularly appreciated the tea service - generous, hot, warmed milk if you take milk, "one lump or two" ?. Altogether a very nice time. A tad pricy compared to many but well worth it for a special time.”

“The desert, campfire brownies, was merely good. That was the ONLY quibble of the evening. Ambiance? Impeccably glamorous, down to the textured walls, but still a bit cheeky and fun due to the speakeasy style entrance. Cocktails? Complex, interesting, and strong - Bijou, SVD, Espresso Martini, and Irish Coffee were all on point. Service? Attentive without being overbearing, team service at it's best. Steaks? Both the Ribeye and NY strip were perfectly cooked and meltingly delicious, enhanced by the herbed butter served on top and the house demiglace. Bone marrow? Just perfect, the onion jam is the right counterpoint to its richness. Mac and Cheese? On point. Bread and butter? The butter... how do they make something as simple as seasoned whipped butter this magical... who cares, they just do, just eat it. It's not a cheap dinner but isn't at all overpriced for what it is. This place is a gem, you should make a reservation today.”

“I never go out to get an American dinner, but this place exceeded my expectations! We got the mushroom pizza (spectacular, good amount of sauce and toppings), the burrata pizza (good when it's hot and immediately after it is delivered to table, the apple salad (phenomenal, good about of sauce and excellent assortment of toppings), and the Caesar (classic Caesar nothing too special). But the item that stood out the most was the TRUFFLE FRIES. Best truffle fries Ive had in a very long time. Great fries and the seasoning was above and beyond. didn't come with an aoili dipping sauce oddly, but i was super content with the fries alone. super flavorful and had the right about of everything on it.”

“The lamb burger was excellent. Went in for a quick bite and our waiter was kind enough to split our shared meal - the lamb burger and fries with truffle - on two plates and maintained the presentation and quality of the food. But the real winner of the night were the two homemade cookies we took home. My only complaint of the evening was the back corner of the restaurant we were seated in was a little too dark for my liking. Overall though, a solid place for dinner.”

“On a recent trip to Boston, we stopped by an iconic seafood and fresh lobster restaurant called James Hook + Co. You might know it ? because it’s won many awards for Best Lobster Roll, as well as Traveler’s Choice, among many other national awards.“Since 1925, James Hook & Co., founded by Grandfather James Hook and his sons, has been a pioneering force in the lobster industry."Restaurants that are THAT steeped in history always are on my radar, so lunch at James Hook + Co. was a must! Here are our top three suggestions on what you should order when you’re there:? Double Stuffed Scallop: I’ve lived in New England for almost 14 years and in that time, have become obsessed with any sort of stuffed shellfish. This seafood stuffed scallop is BEYOND - I can’t even begin to explain to you how delicious it was. A bright balance of acid from the lemon and the sweet scallop meat, paired with the delicious seasoned crumbs on top makes it an appetizer I want to have over and over again!? Shrimp & Corn Chowder: The ideal way to warm up on a New England spring day that promises to be warm but really just delivers cloudy weather and chilly temps mind day, ha! This chowder was packed with flavor! Lobster Roll: The star of the show, this lobster roll was top-notch! The sweet lobster meat was stuffed into a grilled bun, and the lobster salad itself was perfectly tossed in mayonnaise and secret signature seasonings, which elevated it to the next level. It was also served very cold, and that contrast with the bread was lovely!Five stars ⭐️ to James Hook + Co. for delivering not only outstanding food, but great service and ambiance! I can’t wait to take my family there this summer when they visit!”

“WOWOW a must go in Boston. This place does not disappoint. Literally everything was delicious. All the appetizers were fried to perfection with a light tasting batter. The curry beef udon was SO GOOD. Savory and delicious. The curry taste was perfect, not overbearing. The udon was cooked well, not too soft nor hard. The kanten dessert was a nice and light dessert. Not too sweet. The decor inside is adorable. The flowers and banners really make a difference. It was a lil spot that made me feel like I was jumping into Japan. Service was fast. We didn't have to wait too long for our group of 6. Very accommodating. If you make a reservation, make sure to be on time. They are strict which is understandable because it's a small space. Not gonna lie, stopped in here because of proximity to our destination and because Portnoy gave it an 8.5 on OneBite. Needless to say we opted for a small 'Roni. Pizza was up quicker than I could finish a pint of cool, cold Peroni. Definitely a solid pie; wicked crispy bottom and crust and the sauce and cheese were fresh and tasty. Service was shaky (maybe they were understaffed or short a body) but $48 for 4 drinks and a pizza in Boston felt fair enough on the wallet.”

“O Ya was a place I've been trying to get to for 3-4 years. On an episode of the youtube series Hot Ones where celebs eat progressively hotter wings Salma Hayek proclaimed O Ya as her favorite restaurant. When I heard it was a restaurant in Boston I knew I had to try it. Each piece was creatively constructed and layered with complimentary flavors. Pictured here is the entire 20 course omakase plus 1 extra (the umi toast). If you look at the image of the menu and zoom in there are additional items you can add to your courses. I asked the waiter if I went with just one what does he suggest and he said the umi toast and I'm happy he did. The umi toast was a crispy tangent that I really appreciated. There is a steep price tag to eat here, but you will be here for 2-2.5 hours so I think of it more like an edible art show. I had an amazing time here and I hope you do as well.Vegetarian options: My wife got the vegetarian omakase of 20 pieces and if I get back here sometime I want to try it. They put just as much effort into the vegetarian menu as they do the regular one. My wife was also really impressed with 99% of the vegetarian menu. The crushed ice shisho leaf was the one piece that wasn't her style, but I tasted it from her dish and thought it was delicious.”

I had never had cold udon noodles before, and it was great!Interior is cute with some nice decor and plenty of seating. Service was nice, quick, and attentive.FOOD:~Cold Uni Udon (5/5): Cold dish! I love uni and ikura, so this hit the spot. The broth/sauce was a dashi flavor. Mixed it all up and was the perfect balance of umami and salty. The coldness of the dish really ensured the integrity of the udon noodles, and they were so perfectly chewy~Sukiyaki Udon (5/5): Hot dish! Tasted like hot pot! The beef was very tender and had a decent amount of cabbaged that was perfectly braised. I loved this dish. This is definitely a must try!”

Once the food is served, you will immediately forget the weird entrance. Every piece is creative and superbly seasoned. Perfection from beginning to end!!! The Japanese rice is just the right softness. The fish is cut to the right size and thickness. This is definitely one of the best sushi restaurants in Boston! What a pleasant surprise!!! Highly recommend!!!!!Minor note to chefs - if you could play some nice jazz music, it would make the meal even more pleasant and authentic. Right now the pop music does not go with the high quality sushis.”
